Bingo. ^
I stay a Hiltons around 150 nights a year, tried Starwood for one year, got status match, treated great, but their properties just were not convenient. When I work a show for 10 hours and a Hilton Garden is across the street I am not going to drive 22 miles to stay at a Starwood. Having been a Diamond for over 10 years I have always been treated decent, and I guess thats all I ask.

Thanks HH for valuing me so much, and for making this decision easy...

I'm just glad that last year when the RT got canned I did a status match to PC. They gave me plat, and I've increased my stays there. Been very happy with PC's upgrades, bonuses, promos, and best of all Pointbreaks (just booked a 3 night stay for 15K).

When in London...
I was not surprised at all by the email since the program has gotten so pathetic in the recent past. Anyone interested in Summer Rock codes?
HH was my first frequent stay plan and I was quite happy back in the day. When my company changed preferred hotels to SPG I was even happier. Great bonuses, usually good properties (though not as consistent as Hilton), and nice reward options. Marriott was the other preferred hotel, and I did not find their program good at all since it took forever to get beyond silver and there were limited redemption options.
A little over a year ago I changed jobs and most of the time SPG is not on our list for the cities that I go to (London mostly) so I defaulted back to Hilton.
I am ready for a switch if I can find a good alternative in the Belgravia/Kensington area of London. Count me in. ^

I've been giving SPG about 50% of my travel the past couple of years mostly because of the decline of a few Hilton properties I no longer stay at. I've been a Hilton Gold for a few years and have noticed several properties where they are long in the tooth, no or poor exec lounge, or some other service problem (had one Hilton exec room with unclean sheets!).
I prefer SPG but they aren't always where I travel. I'd never give business to Marriott/Mormon Church. I guess I'll just shift more stays to SPG and stay at Hilton where I have no SPG choice.

What is wrong with the Mormon Church?
I am not Mormon. Nor do I think Marriott Corporations is perfect--some if their Marriott Rewards' polices defy logic. But I do admire the way Bill Marriott stands for the highest values in ethical conduct.
As an aside--Marriott is a public company.

W/R/T Marriott, I just haven't been impressed with their properties. The namesake hotels are OK, just like many US Hiltons. However, the Courtyards I've been in are total dumps (once upon a time they were nice). I think Marriott has just failed to keep up with the times especially when *wood and some of the other botique hotels have come on the scene. Hilton is keeping things going because of their diversification with DT, ES, HGI, and Hampton.

i average between 150-170 nights in a hotel per year....when in india i'm always staying at a taj property, is the US i stay with spg & hilton gets all my london & asia (besides india) stays....i always end up requalifying for top status with all 3....i like the choice of staying at a starwood property in india when taj is not an option, but with no hiltons in india currently i have been thinking of moving away hh....i will now start to move most of my hilton stays in asia to spg....but there are a few hilton properties i will stick with (hilton singapore, hilton london metropole), not because of any loyalty to hilton but to those properties in general....i have 5 stays left to requalify for diamond & had over a dozen stays booked before the end of this year....now with the current devaluation of points in this economy, no hilton properties left in my country & no free night offered to me, i just feel hilton is not doing enough to retain me as a customer, so i'm not sure if i want to get those 5 stays to requalify....maybe give them to spg instead....

OK, going out on a limb here, but let's see.
1). The poster identifies himself as being from San Francisco.
2). The Mormon church -- among other conservative religious organizations --is viewed by some groups as being hostile to their desires/needs/lifestyle, etc.
3). You do the math.
Was PaulSF's gratuitious comments totally off-base, at least with respect to this discussion?
Yes.
PS -- By the way, Paul, in addition to Marriott being a public company, I know many gay people who work for said hostile company, and no, I am neither a Mormon nor a Marriott stockholder.

Unlikely Moving Stays Away from Hilton Brands
After looking at my up to date personal redemption behaviour [150K HH points for a six nights Category 5 hotel award (GLON2)] and compare it to the table that works for redemptions from 1/15/10 (26.25K x 6= 157.5K HH points for a six nights Category 5 hotel award) I see a devaluation of 5%. If I find a Category 4 hotel (22.5K x 6= 135K HH points for a six nights award) that fits my needs, I gain by 10%. There might be another redemption option which I might choose: Points discount for Four or Five Nights reward nights.
As I dont know if the new category structure will effects me there must be a change as HH introduce a new category 7 I am not able to forecast if I will move stays at Hilton brands elsewhere, but it is unlikely.

Too many Hampton Inns to change programs
While I would prefer to move to SPG or MR I end up in many locations for work that the only hotel worth anything is a Hampton.
If starwood would hurry up and vastly expand their Aloft hotels then Hilton would definitely loose me as a cust.

So you current category 4 hotel (worth 22 500/night) will be a cat 5 and cost 26 250, a 16,7% loss instead of the 10% gain you're expecting.

If rates are still competitive, I will not change ships
I definitely missed that part. Am I correct assuming that HH did not introduced a new Category, as they had seven prior to the change?
Let see if my new calculation holds:
My GLON2 (current: 6 nights in Cat 5) for 150K HH points will be replace to 180K (30K x 6) which is an increase by 20%. This brings an unpleasant devaluation to part of my points, but in all fairness: This is covered by one free night at a current category 5 hotel. As I said before: There might be another redemption option which I possibly will choose: Points discount for four or five reward nights.
Will Hilton HH lose part of my loyalty? For the most part I stay at Hampton Inns (still 1K miles in BMIs FFP) and are satisfied with this brand. If they will offer competitive rates in the future as they did in the past, I dont change ships.

I am more than tires about these threads. We had them in the IHG forum, in the SPG forum and now in the Hilton formum.
So what?
everything is getting more expensive. Hotel get more expensive, we get more points and the point rates have to increase too. So what? I know, the first very bright poster will now argue that that the rates in the Springfield Hilton went down. They did, because the US is sufferering from its past mistakes. And the rates in the Springfield Hilton went even more down in a strong currency like the AUS$ or the Euro. Given the decline of the USD and the USD linked Hilton points currency, it is not a surprise that these rates go up too.
