I appreciate the price overview given despite that the prices are obviously cached. Hence the prices can deviate from the real prices. But AY seems to refresh these cached prices frequently, so for me they are vastly correct.
And since I have a good amount of private travelling I don‘t have fixed dates or periods when I need to fly. So the overview is quite handy. And if I have to fly, then the price tag is way less important. |
Multiplying by three is too much to ask from Finnair IT. These flights are part of the triple poinst campaign for tickets bought on the first week of May this year. Originally the HEL-CPH flight was credited for 1875 reward points (plat, no campaing) and 5625 tier points. I contacted AY service for another matter and asked them to take a look into it, and boy they sure did. I'm afraid to ask again should the reward point tally for that leg go negative.

Something is seriuosly wrong with Finnair.com booking engine.
E.g. ARN-MEL 22-12-22 Published to GDS are a lot of options eastbound, but Finnair.com only shows westbound. This google-flight shows AY-flights westbound at 4300€ https://www.google.com/travel/flight...iTwZ33koACm6n6 https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...b1cefb2ee3.png Clicking through to Expedia gets the flights: https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...21608fce8c.png Clicking through to Finnair does not. Only one option exists and it is westbound, which is more than 1100€ more expensive: https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...acd6e88c11.png And if one do not use the google provided deep-link, and searches manually att finnair.com the same result appears. Only one option, westbound at a substantially higher price. What is the conclusion? Maybe Finnair has cancelled flights and routes and not updated GDS, thus all third parties are seeing ghost routings? Maybe Finnair "enhanced" their search enginge and now only allow 1-stop-connections? Maybe Finnair decided to "make things easier" for the customers and filters all search results so that only "the easiest" (1-stop) routes are shown? Maybe they once again launched a faulty web-product and no one is around to do quality assurance? If it passes the compiler there is nothing wrong with the code... |
I was surprised to see that when searching for HEL-BKK, it offered HEL-ICN-BKK with ICN-BKK by Asiana Airlines. It’s not even a Finnair codeshare.
|
The "only show nonstop" button has disappeared, too. Made looking for nonstop HEL-JFK a pain.
|
They now added the ability to book award flights trough the app. Good addition, thank you AY!

Multi-city is back!
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...6a6adef300.png We have brought the multi-city booking option back! You can now make more complex travel plans on Finnair.com and Finnair app. You can return from a different destination than where you flew to – and return to a different destination than where started your journey from. It’s good to note that you must return from the same continent you flew to and to the same continent you left from. delete or move please, forgot we had the multi-city thread |

Still problems with the 3x promo points. So far I have had 6 segments with the promo, with 2 of them credited only 1x points. One was rerouting HEL-BRU to HEL-AMS during the strike in Brussels. WA: "sent to another department, should be corrected within two weeks". The second one was a simple intra-EU flight with upgrade. WA: "to be forwarded to the other department". How can it be so complicated? Apparently a looong queue of manual corrections in "the other department".
|
Wasn‘t it promised on here that the points would post automatically even on upgraded tickets?
TBH I am not surprised it isn‘t working as it is supposed to knowing AY‘s IT. |

The first missing point flight was a rt flight from HEL to Germany. I am missing 2x the points for the outbound flight. I upgraded first leg to the J and I think this messed up the system. Points for incoming flight were recorded correctly. The 3x point flight was a TLL-HEL-Greece rt ticket. This time, both TLL-HEL and HEL-TLL points were recorded correctly, but both Greek flights are missing 3x points (inbound and outbound). It is little strange that 2/4 flights were credited correctly :D I need those points to renew my plat and the season ends this month (Thursday). I called cs for the first time two weeks ago and again last Wednesday to remind them of a tight deadline. A cs agent said he saw the matter pending and promised to make a reminder to "another department". Two more days left and I look forward to what happens.. |

How a real airline's booking engine works:
1. When customer wants a return ticket, populate the calendar with return prices! In this case, the return defaults to 14 days later, customer has an option to change trip duration. There are other ways to implement it, but this one is workable. Unlike Finnair's, that shows some random prices, like two one-ways that can't be combined in real life. This calendar also clearly explains the prices I see - return price in DKK for 14 day trip duration, with cheapest outbound date highlighted: https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...9c1fccc519.png OK, so that 5300 DKK price is interesting, and the 16th is OK. Let's select that. Calendar immediately updates to show return prices on different returns. And look! They still have that 5321DKK price! If this was Finnair booking engine the price might no longer be there. And look, I now have immediate overview of what a shorter or longer trip would cost too. So I am still in control of my travel dates and prices. Nice! Well' let's be cheapskates and go for that lowest price. Click on 29th as return. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...005ed5f92d.png Surely now the advertised price must be gone. I mean, if this was Finnair booking engine I would be presented with a long list of strange options like 22h connections and combinations with low cost airlines and one-way prices not matching the calendar sorted with the worst option on top. I'll be darned... The price is still honured, flagged as the lowest, qouted as a return fare and with an overview where I can easily see my options. OK, let's choose that 5321DKK fare and let's go with the light version, as it includes bag and fee-free changes. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...0c837beaff.png Surely now is the time when the fare disappears. I mean last chance to screw it up! Disappointed again. The fare stil holds. And they even clearly shows the cost of the upsell options. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...5fdd278371.png This is the stage where Finnair excels. Here would be a long list of flights in cabins I didn't want to travel and with one-way-prices not matching the advertised fare, since not all outbound fares can be combined with the presented inbound fare. On Finnair you need to go back to select each and everyone of the offered outbounds and then combine them with each end everyone of the inbounds to actually find the lowest combined return fare - which may or may not match what is show in the calendar. And you would'nt even be able to see the final price, the booking classes and the service class until you proceeded to the final step. Malice or incompetence - why spend the time and energy to book with Finnair when there are airlines which are honest about their pricing and lets the customer stay in full control of choices and pricing throughout the booking process? |
intuition When you selected the Light version, you forgot that it didn't bump you to a higher ticket type without providing any notice on that.
