I'm just wondering how AY is calculating distances. I know they are statute miles. When I use GC Map or other tools I receive for MXP-HKG 5814 or 5825 miles. Finnair is telling me that this flight was 5782 miles. I was on a ticket which gave me 100% per mile. So 1 mile = 1 avios = 1 TP.

I think the number of miles comes from the operating airline, not Finnair in this case.
But anyway, miles in programs differ from GC-routes and can even be shorter than GC, which is technically impossible. But airlines keep their own tables of distances and that is what is used. |

They refer to IATA TPM which is not publicly available: https://www.iata.org/en/publications...t-mileage-tpm/ I imagine many airlines use it directly or some derivation of it. What AY use specifically we don't know. JL flights when credited to AY seem to be based on the JL table. |

Here is one example of such table (JL): https://www.jal.co.jp/jp/en/jmb/earn.../flight/jismt/

HEL-WAW taxes and surcharges for an Economy award are higher than for a Business award

I had a strange chat today . Without going into too many detalis I had 50.000+ Avios before the chat and after checking some year-old wronlgy charged points I asked chat to correct them. They did and then SUDDENLY I had only 45.000+ Avios. I was about to book an award business flight with my 50.000 Avios when I saw the wronly charged points (Avios?) and then I could not book the flight with my now under 50.000 Avios. The chat (second chat) could not solve it because the guy said he could not see my earlier 50.000 points - neither can I any more. Is it common with problems like this when the earlier flights had been charged in points, no Avios yet then I assume. And is there a place where I can see my own total saldo history on day to day basis (I need the one from this morning) This case was sent to the team taking care of Avios but I would need them quickly. I tried to say PLEASE cancel all the chat things and give me back what I had but it was impossible. Very annoying.

Does someone know when other airlines are transfering information about flown flights so that AY can post the TPs? Is there somehwere an information out in the internet? I'm looking for information for BA and AA. My last flights with CX took almost 10 days to be posted. The reason is I would be able to hit Platinum more or less on the last day of my current tracking period.

AY is very slow with these. This includes AY flights as well – sometimes it can take more than a week for AY flights to post, with no obvious reason. With partners, it can sometimes easily take two weeks.

I see I need a plan B. Maybe I just buy the missing TPs with my Avios beforehand and then just fly. Would cost me 36000 Avios and 10€. Then I don't care when they post everything and can enjoy already Platinum on my next flight.

Spend 1500 more, just for Flex, and receive only 1000 Avios more. Seems legit. (This is AY long-haul)

You don't pay 1,500 EUR extra for the 1,000 additional Adios, you pay it for the flexibility

Finnair has hedged by using "~".
With this spend based system customers doesn't need to know the actual number of points they will earn. 4000 or 16000 avios is around the same, right? They just need to know "spend more and earn more". Who cares about avios as long as customer spends? |
