For the morning Qatar flight, went at around 8 AM to find out that I was the only one there. Lounge staff even joked "did you reserve the lounge for yourself". She made delicious tomato-cheese omelette.

Lockers for Transfer Pax?

Curious to know if they have any lockers to store carryon bags at the lounge if wanting to go into Helsinki proper during a layover?

Yes but no.
They have lockers but you MUST only use them being INSIDE the lounge during your visit. Last week I was to go out the lounge for shopping, the agent remembered I had used the lockers and told me hey you cannot leave your bags in lockers if going out the lounge.
Airport security reason. Service gone inconcenient...

Indeed so. I asked them to store something while I popped out of the lounge for a quick tour to YYZ and back, and they didn't allow it

Hah, why not. YYZ was just around the corner from that lounge.

Hmmm. I wonder if it then possible to arrive to HEL, take a shower, and check the luggage at a transfer desk for the remainder of the trip so one doesn't have to haul into the city for lunch?

You can store luggage landside in storage lockers in both T1 and T2. Additionally, T2 has a manned bag service for bigger bags. 5-6€ per day, depending on size.

The service has gone downhill, they used to accept my duty free liquids for overnight storage while waiting for the 69 to actually fly. More than once...

4pm on a Sunday, the Premium side is completely packed. Just handful of seats available. Line to the desk 20-30 people. A complete zoo.

Yeah. 15min later and not a single free seat. People standing on the aisles with their food and drinks. Unbelievable...

I think it is totally believable given the flights schedule. Unacceptable perhaps, but not unbelievable.
