Emirates Seating Guide
A380
First:
777
First:
A380
First:
- Solo travelers: some say row 4 is loud from the galley behind, while row 1 may be a bit more cramped than other rows. Most suggest rows 2 or 3, seats A or K.
- Couple: E/F seats in rows 1-3 are all fairly similar.
- General: the mini cabin at the back has a more secluded feel, though some comment that there is noise from the bar beyond row 23.
- Solo travelers: most prefer seats A and K (solo seats on sides with windows).
- Couple: aim for seats E/F to be closer together.
- General comments: upgrade if at all possible!

777
First:
- Solo travelers: Row 1, especially 1a and 1k, is the worst because of galley and lavatory right in front. Noisy and high traffic. Not much difference between row 1 and 2 in terms of space on the 77w for k or a seats.
- Couple: there is not really any difference between row 1 and 2 for e and f seats except 1 is near the galley and 2 is near row 6 in j where there may be children
- General: There is limited direct aisle access as the configuration is 2-3-2. The rear J cabin will have Y pax move through on boarding.
- Solo travelers:
- Couple: 7 j and k are great if you don't mind the missing window. It's in the private mini cabin - a great choice unless you like window gazing. You also don't get y traffic passing through this cabin as you turn left on entry!
- General comments: Y on the 777 is for slim people.

I just double-checked, and unfortunately, this is what I'm going to get on the DXB-CAI route (which makes sense, because Cairo isn't exactly a premium market). The seats are called "Sky Cruisers". They used to be the standard F product on Emirates, even though they resemble the (old) Business Class:

I'm not surprised that I'm getting an inferior product on the second segment of my trip. That's pretty typical when you book with miles (Alaska). It would have been highly unusual to get both flight segments in a flagship cabin.

Lots of the gcc routes get swapped last minute for sky cruisers as the flight is so short. For this 3 hour route you will survive! Personally I've stopped booking regional first after a number of swaps and very annoying passengers on these routes.

For a while there, I had had my hopes up that I could sample, both the a380 and triple-seven suites. There's an ongoing debate about which is better, and I wanted to decide for myself.

In all seriousness, I'm not really as disappointed as you might think about the DXB-CAI flight. I'm actually very grateful that I was able to score EK F on the JFK-DXB segment.... and seat 2K to boot! That will more than make up for it.

No, but like I said to eternaltransit, if the DXB-CAI segment had suites, it would likely not have been included as the second leg of an Alaska mile saver award. I would likely have been downgraded to J on my second leg. (Maybe you know something I don't, but I've never been able to score all segments in a flagship product on a mile saver award)

That's true, but perhaps I may have been downgraded to J on the second segment of my award had there been a suites class?

The real difference is the 380 has the bar in the back with cold/hot food. So makes for a good "stretch" on long haul. AND if your in Biz makes life a little easier on long haul.
In any event good flights from the west coast to Africa although this year I am trying BA AND NOT for award costs, actually purchasing one way

7K,i think that's the last row of the mini cabin. Definitely best chance of a mountain and city view on the right as most of the time runway 19 is in use in CPT

Row 7 is missing a window so you have to lean well forward to see anything. That won't be possible if the seatbelt sign is on by the time the good views come up.
