Emirates Seating Guide

A380

First:
  1. Solo travelers: some say row 4 is loud from the galley behind, while row 1 may be a bit more cramped than other rows. Most suggest rows 2 or 3, seats A or K.
  2. Couple: E/F seats in rows 1-3 are all fairly similar.
Business:
  1. General: the mini cabin at the back has a more secluded feel, though some comment that there is noise from the bar beyond row 23.
  2. Solo travelers: most prefer seats A and K (solo seats on sides with windows).
  3. Couple: aim for seats E/F to be closer together.
Economy:
  1. General comments: upgrade if at all possible!

777

First:
  1. Solo travelers: Row 1, especially 1a and 1k, is the worst because of galley and lavatory right in front. Noisy and high traffic. Not much difference between row 1 and 2 in terms of space on the 77w for k or a seats.
  2. Couple: there is not really any difference between row 1 and 2 for e and f seats except 1 is near the galley and 2 is near row 6 in j where there may be children
Business:
  1. General: There is limited direct aisle access as the configuration is 2-3-2. The rear J cabin will have Y pax move through on boarding.
  2. Solo travelers:
  3. Couple: 7 j and k are great if you don't mind the missing window. It's in the private mini cabin - a great choice unless you like window gazing. You also don't get y traffic passing through this cabin as you turn left on entry!
Economy:
  1. General comments: Y on the 777 is for slim people.

I'm not surprised that I'm getting an inferior product on the second segment of my trip. That's pretty typical when you book with miles (Alaska). It would have been highly unusual to get both flight segments in a flagship cabin.
It has nothing to do with miles, only on the route: DXB-CAI gets one of the few remaining old products. Most of the fleet has F suites, just a few of the short turnaround destinations get the oldest planes.

Yes, EK is known to re-arrange their fleet scheduling to ensure their hand-full of Sky Cruiser aircraft are utilised for Alaska redemption pax

This made me laugh. I can bet Cai is not high in the list of places people book for Alaska rewards

Lots of the gcc routes get swapped last minute for sky cruisers as the flight is so short. For this 3 hour route you will survive! Personally I've stopped booking regional first after a number of swaps and very annoying passengers on these routes.

That's true, but perhaps I may have been downgraded to J on the second segment of my award had there been a suites class?
For a while there, I had had my hopes up that I could sample, both the a380 and triple-seven suites. There's an ongoing debate about which is better, and I wanted to decide for myself.

That's funny.
In all seriousness, I'm not really as disappointed as you might think about the DXB-CAI flight. I'm actually very grateful that I was able to score EK F on the JFK-DXB segment.... and seat 2K to boot! That will more than make up for it.

I doubt it's that they specifically have an algorithm to prevent booking all flagship on partner redemptions. It's more likely a matter of limited availability or simply your routes. I'm pretty sure which specific seat variation is on the aircraft doesn't affect or into EKs availability.

the 927/928 has the 773 "pre-assigned" on a lot of dates.

They are exactly the same. Except for the new 777 suites have taller "walls" Or so the purser on my last flight told me.

The real difference is the 380 has the bar in the back with cold/hot food. So makes for a good "stretch" on long haul. AND if your in Biz makes life a little easier on long haul.

In any event good flights from the west coast to Africa although this year I am trying BA AND NOT for award costs, actually purchasing one way

I couldn't get a decent search result so here goes: any tips for best solo seat in J on 77W? Travelling OSL-DXB-CPT and back. As I'm arriving into CPT in the morning, I will certainly try to get a window seat for the views.

7K,i think that's the last row of the mini cabin. Definitely best chance of a mountain and city view on the right as most of the time runway 19 is in use in CPT

Row 7 is missing a window so you have to lean well forward to see anything. That won't be possible if the seatbelt sign is on by the time the good views come up.

Great point, 6 then, the front row of the mini cabin right? Either way stick to a K seat.
