Emirates Seating Guide

A380

First:
  1. Solo travelers: some say row 4 is loud from the galley behind, while row 1 may be a bit more cramped than other rows. Most suggest rows 2 or 3, seats A or K.
  2. Couple: E/F seats in rows 1-3 are all fairly similar.
Business:
  1. General: the mini cabin at the back has a more secluded feel, though some comment that there is noise from the bar beyond row 23.
  2. Solo travelers: most prefer seats A and K (solo seats on sides with windows).
  3. Couple: aim for seats E/F to be closer together.
Economy:
  1. General comments: upgrade if at all possible!

777

First:
  1. Solo travelers: Row 1, especially 1a and 1k, is the worst because of galley and lavatory right in front. Noisy and high traffic. Not much difference between row 1 and 2 in terms of space on the 77w for k or a seats.
  2. Couple: there is not really any difference between row 1 and 2 for e and f seats except 1 is near the galley and 2 is near row 6 in j where there may be children
Business:
  1. General: There is limited direct aisle access as the configuration is 2-3-2. The rear J cabin will have Y pax move through on boarding.
  2. Solo travelers:
  3. Couple: 7 j and k are great if you don't mind the missing window. It's in the private mini cabin - a great choice unless you like window gazing. You also don't get y traffic passing through this cabin as you turn left on entry!
Economy:
  1. General comments: Y on the 777 is for slim people.

What date/flight are you on?

I'm on 382/383 26-29 August and F is quite quiet.

I would not be happy if someone swapped really - I personally dislike unncessary movement around the F cabin (pet peeve of mine), I think you should just give her the seat if you fail to upgrade or you can all hangout at the bar at the back where I will be

Thanks for replies, been really helpful!
We're flying 12-17 August. First leg on a 777, second 380.
I made the 'deal' with my daughter, she gets the HKG leg. She's definitely going to be one happy camper!

with all due respect I find that hard to believe. Once one of us had to fly coach from DXB to CPT . The purser in FC was helpful however dinner in FC nope! coming up for a glass of champagne was offered.

If you do find that policy please let us all know

I've definitely seen something somewhere about a companion from J joining for dinner. However I may be thinking of a specific case mentioned in a blog vs. an actual policy (or maybe it is an actual thing, like I say, it's a fuzzy memory but there's definitely something along these lines).

The whole point is to show off how the apartment can seat 2 for dinner.

Oh I caught that was just reflecting on a trip. I would be really surprised at a policy like that, if so it could be a traffic jam up front, especially when your eating times are solely dependent on your wishes. which I love.

On another note it will be interesting to see how EK and other GSC's shape their premium coach selection. I think it would be a hit if properly configured. It does beg to shorten FC, add biz and premium coach. As I approach retirement the new premium coach offerings are of interest. While I do have one airline lifetime Gold it's not much on others.

I've read that Emirates is retiring two 777-300's* (not ER) by the end of 2016. These have the old Skycruiser seats in F. They will likely be replaced by 2-class cabin aircraft (Economy and Business).

Does anyone know which routes the aircraft that are being replaced fly on?

I ask this because I am scheduled to be in EK F (JFK-DXB; DXB-CAI) in March. I'm afraid that I might get bumped down to J on my second segment, if one of the newer planes replaces the 777-300 that currently flies this route. It's not so much that I object to getting "downgraded" from an old F Skycruiser seat to a new lie flat Business Class seat, it's that I want access to the Emirates F lounge in Dubai, which I would not qualify to enter with a J boarding pass**.

** My second segment (DXB-CAI) is 3 days after my first segment (JFK-DXB), so I would not qualify to enter the EK F lounge in DXB on the basis that my first leg was in F

If you have a jfk-cai first ticket and you are downgraded on the dxb-cai leg because of an aircraft change (ie only two class), you still have access to the F lounge as your flight dxb-cai is still on a first class fare base (it's the same if you buy for example an EU-MNL ticket in F/F fare, however dxb-mnl is only Y/J configuration, you can still use the FCL)

Does this apply even though my second segment is 3 days after my first segment? And, more importantly, if this is the case, will the front desk lounge agent know this?

Doesnt matter how long the stopover is as your ticket is still on a first class farebase. Had it twice, never an issue (maybe you can ask them via contact form so you have something in written)

Got it. That's good news. I guess I can just show my boarding pass stub from my first segment and/or itinerary confirmation printout to the front desk agent.

Depends on what type of A380 you are flying in, two class, three class etc.

Please see below link, you can choose the different types on the left. Make sure to contact the customer service of Emirates they can help you in selecting the correct seats for traveling with a baby.
