Seriously?! I don't think many people are going to want to depart TLV at 01.20 for a 4 hour red eye on an A320, followed by a further 3 hours on an A320 to get to London at 9.05, when they could instead leave TLV at 07.30 and arrive at LHR at 10.50.

YMMV, I suppose.

Imagine what this article would have been like if one had to get to SFO via HEL and LHR.

Yes, seriously. When Brussels Airways had a codeshare with EL AL I used to fly with them if I needed to be in London just that bit earlier than I could with the regular EL AL morning flight. If I needed to be in a meeting in London at 10:00 that would be the only way to do it.

You can always take LY's LTN flight at 5 am... Seems like a much better way

Yes, but it's a little bit different as BRU-LHR is a quick 40 minute hop while HEL-LHR is 4 times that which I for one would not fancy after a sleepless red eye.

Or you could go the day before and spend the night in an actual bed in London...

I honestly don't think many business people will be taking the HEL route for a 10am meeting in London. If they are then they should really review their planning arrangements.

I would diffidently not be doing that HEL route to LHR. I took AF TLV-BOD at 1.00am on Tuesday (arriving BOD at 9.30) and returned last night on KLM from BOD arriving TLV at 2.35. I will not be doing that again unless I really have to (as I did this time due to simchat torah). I can no longer sleep much in an upright seat which is no different than economy except for slightly more leg room and an empty middle seat. For me nowadays that really isn't suitable for a night flight and I would much rather leave in the morning or the night before and sleep in a comfortable bed.

Re TLV-SFO on UA, great option for high tech companies in Israel but won't work for me. Whilst I fly regularly to SFO, it's either the beginning or end of my trip which are invariably open jaw. BA suits me well for that and UA pricing will not be a match on BA.

Following a write up on Ynet I checked some prices and dates in May/June on Hainan to PEK to see how they compared to LY...

Economy $1832 compared to $1040 with LY.
Business is a whooping $6200 compared to $4080 with LY!

What a shame..

I'm not too worried about it, at these prices they will not be able to fill their planes.
I believe they will soon adjust their prices or drop TLV.

I wonder what's behind the pricing strategy, in China most carriers offer substantial discounts to tour operators (most Chinese will not travel independently due to cultural and language barriers) so maybe they leave some room for future discounts.
