Great news. Germany needs more LCC competition that isn't Turkish.

Good news, but I doubt it will be running by the end of the year.

TLV SYD proposed by Australian Ambassador
I agree that direct flights from Israel to Australia will not happen in the foreseeable future:
1) 16.5 to 18hrs is a long flight in economy
2) Not economical, carrying 16.5hrs of fuel half way for nothing so it will be more expensive than the existing routes
3) No airline to do it - LY has no suitable aircraft, QF is in bed with Emirates, and there are no Asian airlines which fly to Israel and Australia, which would seem to be a pre-requisite. (No-one will staff a station for 1 or 2 flights per week (except LY has for security which the government pays for).
Look at the history of SIN-NY which has been tried several times and always failed to be economic, even though SQ is trying again now with the A350XWB special aircraft, but not until 2018. SIN NY is actually only 8,285nm.

Great Circle distance for TLV to SYD is nearly 1000nm longer, and rules about ETOPS (distance from airport) would actually make it a bit longer still.

TLV-SYD is still shorter than DOH-AKL e.g., and of course a technical stop/connection in PER is always possible and will make it around 13-14 hours, shorter than TLV-LAX which is currently served by LY

I think TLV-PER is a better option anyway. Allows feeder flights from all over Oz. Imagine if you live in PER and want to get to TLV having to fly all the way back to SYD to get to TLV. Better to fly through BKK or HKG at that point.
