$2597 Here...

Not sure what the change and cancelation fees are with LY's lowest Biz fares (which are never as low as this), as they are almost impossible to see online, but with CX its a very reasonable $100 for change and $200 to cancel.

You need to call AA for bookings on IB or CX. But since they don't show up aa.com, they will waive the booking fee.

Perhaps now LY will reduce their ridiculous C pricing??
I am one of those who actually really liked LY but their pricing drove me away.

Do I need to call the US or can I call the Israel number, 03-795-2123?

I would be intrested to know whether they offer you seats, as at the moment BA not even showing the route when searching Avios availbility.

Doubt they do - that's why I initially asked when people think seats would be available. Don't need to travel there for awhile (need --> read: want)

All D gates are for LY, so CX will probably use the higher B or C gates (also E gates once they open).
BTW, other than the D gates which are specifically for the use of LY (and its subsidiaries and wet-leases) all other gates are common-use gates, shared by all airlines. In fact, when needed LY uses B or C gates, and now it happens much more often than before as D2 and D3 have been closed due to the construction of E.

The A350 is similar (size-wise) to the B789 so I do not see too much preparation work needed here.

So does that mean that D gates do not operate on the weekend when LY doesn't fly? Or are other airlines using them then?

As this new Cathay route is not by EL AL, the EL AL forum discussion of it belongs in this thread.

For a discussion of the new CX route which is not a part of this "New Routes" thread, please see the CX forum:

There is no need for them due to lower amount of flight during the weekend. And there are only 6 D gates anyway (D4-D9, not counting D1 which is a bus gate and D2-D3 which are temporarily closed as I have mentioned above), so many LY flights end up departing from B or C - not so convenient for the KDL users.
