Hainan is adding a 4th weekly flight starting in November (on Mondays) due to strong demand on the TLV-PEK route.

The article said 70% of the pax are Israeli. Sad for LY.

Sad maybe, but hardly surprising.

When CX start flying TLV-HKG (can't wait) I really have no idea how LY will compete, with their current product.

The Dreamliners may be a different ball game, but that remains to be seen.

Why is it sad for LY? Are there less pax flying LY now? or is it just that the demand is strong enough that LY flights are still full...

1) That there is so much demand that LY isn't properly taking advantage with more flights and 2) that another airline can take so many Israeli Pax for what I assume is a much lower price.

Same with TLV-SFO - the fact that it's so popular with UA that they are going daily - LY should have done that years ago.

Does LY have the capacity to add more flights on this route? or on the TLV-SFO route? With all the wet leases going around it doesn't seem to be the case

If the demand will fill the planes, they should be looking at buying/dry-leasing more planes

Out of curiosity, is it considered "wet-lease" when it happens on a one-off basis, or is that basically a charter?

Well, yes, that is an option indeed, or they can just do nothing
It is also probably easier for Hainan to sell seats on this route since they can then connect pax to other destinations on their own metal or using code shares they have regardless of the TLV flight, where as for LY it is more "complicated" and possibly less profitable as well.

BA increase frequency

BA once again increase frequency to TLV in S17:
BA165 (morning LHR-TLV) + BA164 (afternoon TLV-LHR) - daily B789.
BA167 (afternoon LHR-TLV) + BA166 (late morning TLV-LHR) - 6 weekly 4-class B772; 1 weekly 3-class B772.
BA163 (red-eye LHR-TLV) + BA162 (early morning TLV-LHR) - 5 weekly 2-class A321.

Note that BA167 in S17 uses the same timings of BA163 in W16/17.
So overall, it makes S16 the only season in the past few years with no afternoon BA LHR-TLV flight.

However, I do find it weird that BA162 is 5 weekly (which is the flight that allows more connections). They could have made it daily, and make BA166 5 weekly...
