Alitalia reduces frequency FCO-TLV

As of February 1st, flights down from 33 weekly to 21.

I never realised they had so many flights on the route.

Glad to see national carriers in Europe competing outside their home markets. I guess Ryanair and easyjet have taught them.

I doubt it's about Alitalia wanting to compete. It's presumably to do with utilisation and/or cost efficiency.

Looking at the timetable it seems the aircraft will do FCO-TLV-ATH, overnight in ATH and return via TLV in the morning. So perhaps ATH is cheaper or more efficient to overnight or get maintenance done than TLV, and the ability to sell seats on those legs makes it worth it.

Transcrap is flying YUL-TLV starting next summer, the times look horrible. 2pm.. have fun trying to sleep on that one.

Canadian carrier airtransat in summer 2017 season is extending its network to the Middle East, where the airline plans to commence Montreal – Tel Aviv service. From 18JUN17 to 29OCT17, the airline’s A330-200 aircraft will serve this route twice a week. Reservation opened on the airline’s website yesterday (06JAN17).

TS172 YUL1400 – 0800+1TLV 332 7
TS272 YUL1400 – 0800+1TLV 332 3

TS173 TLV1000 – 1540YUL 332 1
TS273 TLV1000 – 1540YUL 332 4

I wonder how an arline that loses EUR 0.5 million a DAY can even think about launching a non-hub route...

Nice to see although sometimes I feel like foreign airlines don't quite realize the workweek here is Sunday-Thursday. Most of the time if I'm flying to Europe for business I want to fly back on Thursday which would make a Thursday flight better than a Friday flight.

How can an airline make money selling only to passengers on one side of a city pair? It doesn't make sense.

But if you fly to Europe on business, don't you then also conduct business on a Friday?
And what if you want to fly to Vienna for leisure when your week in Israel is done?
