Really got to wonder about AA cancelling TLV altogether.
I can accept as believable that PHL didn't/can't make money. . . . but now that DL are increasing capacity?!?!? Really, why didn't AA just shift into JFK? Or LAX? Or MIA?
Something just doesn't compute.

From DL's press release:
Really? TLV is NYC's 3rd largest trans-Atlantic market? Wow.
The additional flights will complement Delta's existing daily service to Tel Aviv for a total of 11 weekly flights between the two cities and third largest trans-Atlantic market.

While you can't trust everything on Wikipedia, it does list TLV as JFK's 7th largest international market as of June 2013 with two destinations above it not TATL, and Wikipedia lists TLV as EWR's 2nd largest international destination.

I said I CAN understand and accept AA's claim that PHL was a loser . . . . but with DL now expanding capacity - seems very odd the AA didn't just shift to JFK - especially if its (as claimed by DL) the 3rd largest trans-Atlantic market from NYC.

Either AA has the worst management of any US legacy carrier that they couldn't figure out how to turn a profit from fully booked flights at high price points or there is something else that they are not saying (I bet on option B).

There is enough demand on the part of business pax SFO-TLV that only minimal leisure pax are necessary to make it a go. Many (and I mean many) of the titans of Israel's tech world have been pushing hard for this route.

I believe there is a high demand for SFO, especially in J and not very price sensitive. My guess is that we will see normal Y prices in the range of 1000-1500 r/t but extremely high J prices to cover the cost. UA should have no problem filling their planes, especially in premium cabins.
