Ha! It was a hell of a lot of fun. In the wilderness with a small group of your year group for a couple of weeks, white water rafting, abseiling, caving etc You're challenged individually and as a group. Of course there are bits when you wish you were home in your own bed eating your mum's cooking but that's part of the experience. We used to stop at Maccas on the way home and burgers became a sort of currency on tour, ie "I'll buy you a cheeseburger if you carry my sleeping bag today."
The school up the road used to do 6 months away at their bush campus and thought we were pretty soft because we only did a couple of weeks fro year 7-10.

It was well telegraphed that you would have to do it as part of being at the school and also that if you didn't go it was grounds for expulsion, so I guess we knew what were getting into.

There's some pics here, it doesn't look that bad does it? (not pictured: Spam Ryvita)

Trying to decide what to cook tonight -- torn between oyakodon (chicken, egg, onion cooked in a dash broth and served over rice) or a low country pilau (Caroline Gold rice, smoked trout, salmon, bacon, tomato and pea rice dish). I just ordered dried limes so I can make a Persian seafood stew later this week. Whatever doesn't get made today gets made in another day or two!

After all the wonderful Oktoberfest fest pork knuckles , various wurst platters & such , we went for a simpler palate of steamed fish , pork congee & stir fried French beans .

Just googled and see that Ottolenghi loves dried limes...I am going to check my Middle East market for them.

Fancy! You have all the ingredients to make either of those? I have not heard of dried limes but I was jonesing for Persian food today. I have leftover lamb chops so that is tonight but I might do takeout from local Persian greasy spoon tomorrow.

Brownies with a stout, because I'm without power so I can't heat up my leftovers. I may slice up some cheese and eat that and crackers before the brownies.

Well , still travelling via meals - did southern Pacific Ocean countries including Argentina , Australia & New Zealand - lamb chop & Tasmanian ? Kurobuta pork , Westholme beef ( Queensland ) . WChilean sea bass ..
Iberico ham was what I decided against this time , too much “ processed “ foods - sausages from last month till ..

Grilled prawns from Argentina
