Parsley is a pretty inoffensive herb too. Unless gaobest's kid is seriously fussy I can't see them complaining about it.

You must be new here. His kid only eats a few things (cheeseburgers, pizza & a couple others--certain brand of English muffins only) but I still say ignorance is bliss...don't say anything and chop it finely. Some people even sneak some veggies into meatballs or meatloaf and the kids don't know .

Hmm...My mother used to cook one meal and it was take it or leave it. Even SPAM tastes good when you're hungry.

We have had this discussion on here already. Gaobest's household is unique in that they all often have something different for dinner.
I haven't had it in years but I seem to remember fried Spam being pretty good...in a very unhealthy way.

Coincidentally... Today Mr CE did a new (to us) Thai turkey meatballs in a curry broth with rice and spinach. It was fantastic. I don't have the recipe but presume it was originally in the NYTs and can be found via search.

I'm familiar with gao's small restaurant, but I didn't realise it was because the child wouldn't eat anything.

At my high school we used to do Outward Bound once a year. A 14 day hike, sleeping under plastic sheets (it snowed one year, that was the coldest I've ever been), carrying 5 days worth of food and hiking/rafting/canoeing 30km-40km/day. I always remember lunch was a real highlight because everything was canned rather than dehydrated vegetables with rice, or powdered milk porridge. The no-name spam on a Ryvita with creamed corn, baked beans and beetroot was heaven. I can confirm that outside of those conditions, it tastes as bad as it sounds.

Were you being punished for something? That sounds awful...every minute of it.

I used our smaller ice cream scoop to form the meatballs. That were rounded and would have better displayed if I photographed them at a different angle. they definitely flattened during baking, and the pan had some baked liquid after cooking. I cant buy any additional kitchen tools due to lack of space :-)

My child eats meatballs without any sauce. Im impressed. I only want meatballs with sauce and pasta, very specifically spaghetti and not other shapes. In fact I like my spaghetti with marinara sauce and meatballs or sausage. I dont need a meat sauce but I do want each bite to have both sauce and meat part.

The shape doesn't matter to me and actually there doesn't even have to be pasta but I absolutely agree that there should be sauce. And it is best not to overhandle the meatballs so using the scoop and not obsessing over roundness is the way to go. If you use your hands, dip them in water first so the meat doesn't stick.

My parents were the same way. My mother was even so mean as to insist that if I didn't eat dinner when it was hot, I would have to eat it cold before getting a bedtime snack. Oh, the humanity!

It is.

I never would've wanted to do Outward Bound, but if you were an outdoorsy person, I'm sure it wasn't horrible.

Ha! It was a hell of a lot of fun. In the wilderness with a small group of your year group for a couple of weeks, white water rafting, abseiling, caving etc You're challenged individually and as a group. Of course there are bits when you wish you were home in your own bed eating your mum's cooking but that's part of the experience. We used to stop at Maccas on the way home and burgers became a sort of currency on tour, ie "I'll buy you a cheeseburger if you carry my sleeping bag today."

The school up the road used to do 6 months away at their bush campus and thought we were pretty soft because we only did a couple of weeks fro year 7-10.

My wife surprised me with Spaghetti Filipino-style from her friend who likes to cook and sell for a living. Not so spicy this time as she finally commented to her how I don't like it too spicy (she had used white and black pepper last time). I gobbled it down real quick.
