Ha! It was a hell of a lot of fun. In the wilderness with a small group of your year group for a couple of weeks, white water rafting, abseiling, caving etc You're challenged individually and as a group. Of course there are bits when you wish you were home in your own bed eating your mum's cooking but that's part of the experience. We used to stop at Maccas on the way home and burgers became a sort of currency on tour, ie "I'll buy you a cheeseburger if you carry my sleeping bag today."
The school up the road used to do 6 months away at their bush campus and thought we were pretty soft because we only did a couple of weeks fro year 7-10.
It sounds more like a place that they would send the troublemakers to teach them a lesson and that would serve as a warning to the rest of us. **shudder**
