I've not tried the personal ones for anything other than reheating.

Oh, it probably wouldn't be used for much else for me. They're not sophisticated enough to have a pre-cook setting and if you leave anything in there like noodles, go to work and come back, it's likely to be mush. But it might be nice to set up a soup or stew, go do a chore like exercise or shovelling snow and come back to a hot meal. Maybe if I get one, I'll try braising some meat or something. My own version of zhajiangmian or something similar that I can put on not hot noodles.

I love the personal size ones for reheating items. I typically pack leftovers into the little crock, then pop it in and let it heat all morning.

I've seen a few items that work like that (either plugged into the car or at your desk). But I would like to try to cook something in one. Ah well, too many toys, not enough time. I'll have to research it to see what would be good to mess with.

Laksa soup with pork chop from a local food court stall... never mind that in South East Asia the dish doesn't exist (at least never seen it in my travels), but the soup wasn't even a laksa base... it was missing the laksa flavour and the coconut milk... wasn't very happy. Will need to complain next time I'm in the area.

A friend uses a 2 quart one for cooking. I've always just used a larger one and had leftovers, then used the mini one (20 ounce) to reheat at work.

We have two. The big one is for company meals and the smaller one is uh, inconvenient. I need a medium sized one.

You can sort by size, and can get almost any size:

Having to deal with waiting for the biggest digital blackout Canada has had in a while, got bored... So dinner was pan fried basa fillets, bamboo shoots, some stir fried bush beans in a Thai chili sauce and brown rice... I have a few more fillets so will have to see what else I can do with them...
