Chicken quesadilla and chips and queso - Chipotle, The Avenues Mall, Kuwait ($17) - later got some monkey bread from Bouchon Bakery, which was okay but needed more cinnamon and some sort of frosting or glaze

I never eat Chipotle in the US, but it was a nice reprieve from pizza, and The Avenues was just a beautiful space (walked 6 miles!)

Chipotle in Kuwait! Interesting. I went to the one in London in 2010, though it wasn't nearly as good as I was expecting it to be.

Dinner this evening in LAS at Istanbul Mediterranean - quite good and paired well with an episode of SNL . This was their beef and lamb Turkish sandwich.

There were many American chains on display at The Avenues, as well as throughout Kuwait - Chipotle, Raising Canes, Shake Shack, The Cheesecake Factory, Texas Roadhouse, Applebees, IHOP, a Starbucks on every corner, etc. - it was quite trippy.

Lamb sausage stuffed pepper. Fern Bar, Sebastopol. Yum. With an expertly prepared Grasshopper for dessert. Probably 30 years since I last had one.

So many places Id likely never think of going when abroad (though I do enjoy stopping by foreign Mickey Ds just to see how much better their menus are than ours). My last trip to Dubai, I thought it so weird to see Outback Steakhouse and similar places near the Burj Khalifa. My Dad even ate a burger at TGI Fridays a few times in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia years ago when there for work.

Take out assorted empanadas from Vinoma (Rohnert Park) along with a homemade kale/pickled onion/avocado/ bleu cheese/apple with olive oil and gravenstein apple balsamic salad.

Ling’s meatloaf from Ling and Louie’s, an Asian fusion restaurant in Scottsdale. Szechuan-style vegetables, red wine-mushroom gravy and meat loaf on a bed of wasabi mashed potatoes. Sounds weird but absolutely delicious!
