We tried to eat dinner at Vinnies earlier this week. They open at 5 and the parking lot was full at 5:10. We went back tonight at 4:45 and got in line. Well worth it.

Lillian’s Italian kitchen in Santa Cruz has this dish sigh with only meatballs. how did it get to be called Sunday gravy?

Sauce is called gravy in many Italian-American homes in the Northeast where I grew up. A lot of dads (not mine) would make a pot on Sunday afternoon, being off work. Vinnies was definitely a family run restaurant, although I think Dad retired years ago.

As temporary residents, we didn’t bother. I am a Goombah, though, just not the registered sort. I think we will make Vinnies a regular weekly stop next August now that we know what it takes to get a parking place and a table.

Dinner last night was spent at Mitsuwa Marketplace (foodcourt) and had an assortment of Japanese dishes in family style. Combined 2 AMEX August dining credits for very affordable but quality dinner.

With all the wonderful restaurants there, especially ones with Tavern in the name, it’s surprising you didn’t pick Asheville as your new home. Or do you like hurricanes a lot in Florida?

We bought a home in the same community as my 91 year old father-in-law. We will stay there until he no longer needs us. Then, in all likelihood, back to Northeast Alabama or East Tennessee where we have kids (who hopefully have been paying attention as we’ve cared for elderly parents). The other kids are in Des Moines and Eugene, worthy of a visit but not places I’d care to live. And as much as I like AVL, it’s not a place I’m comfortable long term. Anything I’d say further about that would probably belong in the other OMNI.

I need to get home and lose some weight. I bet I’ve gained 10 pounds over the last month despite hiking and walking an average of 6 miles a day..

I havn't noticed any changes in the format, but I use the desktop version. You may want to post this query in the technical help forum.
