Fried okra. Also calico beans - a rare treat. I didn’t try the hush puppies.

The absolute best pulled pork I've ever had in a restaurant was in Asheville, NC, many many times actually. Although I think I have equaled it at home now after 20 years of trying. Same with hush puppies.

i saw the beans and thought it was the Brunswick stew on the menu. |
French Toast this morning as the youngest requested it, then I had to cut the crusts off so he would eat it (meanwhile he'll eat the crust had it been a PB& J).

She was probably over 40 and in training. I’m always shocked at how little some experienced grocery workers know about basic produce items. You can tell the ones that don’t eat their vegetables. Or limit their choices to corn and baked beans. If I managed a grocery store, new employee orientation would start in the produce department. And there would be samples. And a quiz at the end.

Getting better. I’m learning. Last weekend, it was drenched in butter after it baked, so I poured some off. This time I used less butter. It was a mistake. That hot butter soaks in and makes a beautiful caramelized glaze once it’s turned over. By the time it’s perfected, however, we may weigh 300 lbs. each. |

Fried calamari and red wine (they were out of white and rose (house) )overlooking the Aegean! Pics next time.
Seaside place where you can eat at the served restaurant or sit next to the ocean - but have to order to go b/c no waiter service there. So you walk 1 minute and sit by the sea and look at the waves and the curved coast with lots of lights. Very pleasant at night -but I think it would be VERY hot in the daytime. Bonus - after 20:30 no charge for umbrella and chaise - there is a charge of varying amounts other times. |
