Well the day started badly as I was on a long distance Amtrak train coming into Chicago. First, Amtrak French Toast. Then, an Amtrak cheeseburger.

But then we arrived into Chicago and it was off to Gibson's Steakhouse as per usual. I had a King Alaska Crab Cocktail, bone in sirloin with bleu cheese scalloped potatoes and vanilla ice cream. Plus tons of alcohol.

All's well that ends well

Today .... I (we) have been eating ....

I ate s'mores whole wheat pancakes at the Pyramid Cafe at Luxor Las Vegas. They were delicious!

I'll own up to an old (previously posted) picture.

Guess what!

I'm using vinewood in the hive! It is wonderful! Flavour .......

For anyone interested in this or other ....woods for cooking over open fire which you can buy in the UK.

I cooked a spatchcocked chicken over fresh thyme and lemons in an olive vine wood fire in the hive yesterday .. with some small roasted potatos and onions and it was devine. There is something primeval in cooking over real flames with big pieces of meat.

Yes I love cooking on the parrilla and enjoy every minute of it.
The smell of wood smoke takes me back to weekends spent camping in the wilds of Scotland. Then there's the aromas of the fat juices hitting the hot coals. It all makes the three hours spent preparing the fire to finally eating a suckling pig worth all the effort.

Wendy's for lunch with coworkers, part of an offsite trip.

Dinner was leftover pork chops. My girlfriend baked up a mess of them last weekend and I'm steadily working my way through them. Quite tasty in fact ^

Boring stuff for me today as I breakfasted at home and am traveling today. Though I did mix stuff up by boiling milk instead of water to make my morning coffee with. I think I may make that a habit ^

Brought some homemade tofu goi cuon (Vietnamese spring rolls) for lunch today. I'm not sure what dinner will be, but that's part of the fun!

Lunch@Devon

Duck a l'orange, potato wedges, cauliflower cheese, cabbage and Brussels a la Tesco.

Surprisingly good and makes me wonder why I cook.

(Yesterday was Tesco Coq au Vin ... and was really good. If Tesco can deliver a portion for two to my house for 7 of really good quality food I wish they would deliver to BA lounges ......)

On the road today.

Breakfast was some awful free hotel fare at the Stay USA Hotel in Hot Springs, SD. This did include a halfway decent cinnamon roll though.

Lunch was at a Taco John's in Cheyenne, WY. For a chain they're pretty good, I really like their Ole Tater Tots.

Oh and I had a can of Budweiser at a road side picnic stand in Chugwater, WY at 10:45 AM. DON'T JUDGE ME!

Have you been to the Little Bear Inn in Cheyenne? When I was making those rounds 20 years ago it was a favorite.
