I'm hoping that's not true, or just one misinformed agent (still bad though). This is clearly a Delta issue in their realm of responsibility.

I'm amazed that Delta apparently hasn't heard of geographic diversification for critical IT infrastructure.

ryandc99 Aug 8, 2016 9:31 am

shocked that they would refuse hotels in NRT...

rylan Aug 8, 2016 9:36 am

Wow they should certainly not refuse hotels for pax in NRT... or anywhere in fact because this is not a WX or ATC event... it is DL ops meltdown so rooms at a bare minimum should be provided. In the EU it should be rooms and food, as well as EU 216 compensation (but good luck getting that).

I don't think NRT will let pax sleep in the terminal either...

With this bad of a situation it is best for DL to be generous with accommodating pax.

Standard Delta operating procedure. Deny Deny Deny.

Then state - Corporate policy states that we do not do meal vouchers anymore; we do not comp hotels as you did not pay much for your tickets. Protecting you on another flight? Why? Your flight is scheduled to leave on time. You will make your connections. They will rebook once you get there...LOL...So on...

I will not hold my breath on any compensation or fare sale. The spin masters will step in soon and make it all go away. :)

Lotta IT wizbang talkers.

DL2101 departing at 6:50am MSP-MCO cancelled and rebooked on DL2503 departing 8:05pm. Already showing delayed until 9:50pm.

Im out two uber rides; $45 & $22. Chances of getting reimbursed? Plus missing a day of travel.

Also, I just need to be in MCO by mid day tomorrow. Best way to play?

I do really feel for those that had morning flights today, what an incredibly crappy way to start a work week.

My guess is that DL will protect (try hard to operate) ATL-ORD as it's primarily a business flight. IME the leisure destinations and RJ flights will be the most likely to be sacrificed.

Amazing number of experts in here who can solve this type of .... from hundreds of miles away without even seeing any of the diagnostics. You guys should be consulting for Delta and making some serious bucks.

You are not going to get any compensation. If you need to be in MCO by tomorrow, book on another airline. At the most they will refund your ticket.

Check the sleeping in airports website. IIRC in the past, sometimes passengers did spent the night in NRT.

This is not an ordinary snafu, but a major system wide meltdown. It made the front web page of the NY Times, which is how I first heard about it.

I've been thinking about shifting some travel to DL from UA, but will be paying close attention to how this meltdown plays out, and how they take (or deny) responsibility for their massive service failure. I'm sure that I can't be the only one who will respond accordingly to DL's actions going forward. I hope they are not penny wise in trying to avoid service recovery costs.

Since your flight is delayed, you're entitled to rebooking. DL might even allow you to interline if you have status.

Is there an early morning flight tomorrow that you could take? Maybe ask to be protected on that (if you can convince a DL agent)?

It's not that anyone here with myself that has an IT background (myself included) is some rocket scientist. It's just that redundancy isn't new.

There are no alternatives in the market. After a few days of hand wringing, you are going to go back flying Delta. They know it and will/are acting accordingly. If you complain too much, they will throw you few K Delta Pesos. Otherwise expect them to just deny everything as per ticketing TOC.

Wait for the spin. There is already a war of words with blaming Georgia Power for it.

I'm at work now. Ground delay programs are activated in ATL and LGA. Technology is working now and the final delayed flights should be departing soon. The worst (not knowing when things start moving) is over. Now it's just recovering for the next day(s).

Delta Connection was operating on-time this morning as far as I could tell, since their flight plans are generated by their own carriers' tech.
