Frustrated. I know my "on-time" SEA-MSP is not on time because it is coming from PVG and I can't get the agents to understand a 757 can't fly from PVG-SEA. I also know from flight aware that the 757 that is supposed to make the trip hasn't even arrived in DTW yet to then come to SEA. But because I am on time I can't rebook. I supposed they could be providing a substitute aircraft but I find that hard to believe on a day like this.

Edit: well...according to DL status now it looks like they will use a 753 that arrived from atlanta last night...at least I hope so.

Have a friend who's in ATL whose flight has been delayed 6 hours to GRR & is now on the 'creeping' delay where it just shifted by another half hour. I told her that she might want to make a hotel reservation just in case it cancels, as it's easier to cancel a hotel than get one at the last minute. There is some good news for her, though. The plane she's due to fly to GRR on just landed at ATL 8 minutes ago according to flightaware.

Cheers.

Physics is a problem here. For sync replication RTT should not exceed 30ms with all processing time included. Limits to 40 miles radius, requires DWDM and (very) expensive SFPs and cables.

Wow... a reason for wanting to fly a CRJ200?!?!? :D

They legally have to if the flight is canceled do to carrier fault. I'm guessing DAL is guessing the fine for violating the law will be less than the cost of the hotels. Start arresting executives for this type of thing and I'm sure it will change quickly.

Agreed, though I wonder what time the recovery flights are scheduled for? And how quickly they can procure a large number of buses?

You could even just given tickets for the NEX or the Skyliner.

I've got a flight to South America Wednesday...Assuming they get their systems back up today/tomorrow, what are the odds my flights will be impacted by this?

We can only guess at this point, and a lot will depend on how the rest of today goes, but I would only be very slightly worried, at most, about a Wednesday flight at this point.

The originally planned DTW-SEA inbound flight canceled, thus the substitution.

Doubtful. If it was intentional, they would have intentionally done it 3 hours later.

You'd also have a tough time forcing an area-wide power outage and a fire, and if there was no fire, faking a fire department response.

Glad I'm not flying DL today, and sorry for those who are. I won't point fingers because we don't really know what happened yet. Although I did see that Georgia Power said there wasn't an outage on their side, but they were helping DL to resolve it. Sounds like DL may have had some equipment failure causing the outage.

I will say, DL was somewhat fortunate that this happened at 0230ET/0630Z. There's far fewer flights departing at that time of day as opposed to say 1600ET/2000Z. Nevertheless, this will likely take many days to recover from. I imagine crew schedulers and aircraft routers are scrambling to put the schedule back in order. Their completion % will definitely take a ding.

Point in case.. if that "continuity" fails these days you cannot express yourself in F :p

That it hasn't happened to DL on this scale for decades makes it quite extraordinary doesn't it..... the definitions in the legislation are very broad as well.

Not decades, it's scarcely been 12 years since the "Christmas Meltdown" when Comair's count of crew scheduling changes exceeded its allocated 16 bits of storage and sent cancellations rippling throught the mainline company as well as all of Comair.

You could even just given tickets for the NEX or the Skyliner.

Or the Friendly Airport Limosene Bus if DL can't succeed in chartering a bunch of their vehicles.

It's so much easier than NEX, skyliner, etc. Door-to-door is a huge advantage.
