Thanks for the tip. Just sent an email to DL about her.

Thumbs up

Finally, got the Porsche pickup service last Wednesday night. I am ATL-based but was connecting through Hartsfield from BHM on my way to SAN without a chance to even go home first. Very nice lady, told me my flight was on time and since we had a while until boarding would begin (about 30 minutes), asked if I would like to be delivered to the nearest SC instead of going to the gate to wait. She escorted me to the C37 SC and when there was a line to get in, told me to go on in and she would clear me with the SC attendant.

Said that DL plans to implement similar pick up services at other airports in the not too distant future given the feedback that they've received in ATL though locations had "not yet been finalized."

I jokingly picked on her for having not gotten picked up before and she said that they are trying to selectively target folks with tight connections, folks generally not based in ATL who might find the airport confusing and difficult to navigate, and, time-permitting, other high value customers who "we might not have thanked recently according to our records" (whatever that means)!

Overall, a big thumbs up!!!

Ride between Terminals in Porsche for Diamond Medallions at ATL

This happened to me today and I've never heard about this before. It's a long story but worth it.

I'm coming out of the special pre-cleared lane at ATL and a man introduces himself to me and says thank you for being a Diamond Medallion. He evidently sees the DM tag hanging from my attache bag. (It's a day trip so I'm traveling extra light). He also asks if I'm traveling with a companion, which I am not. He's not wearing a readily identifiable Delta uniform but he does have some official looking Delta ID on a lanyard around his neck. I say "your welcome" and head over to the monitors to see what terminal my flight to LGA is going out of.

The man follows me and asks me if I want a ride to the terminal. Since I don't really need to be in one of those little carts that ferry the old and feeble through airport terminals I say, no thanks. He's persistent though, saying that this is a new service for Diamond Medallions and that I should give it a try. I'm going out of E terminal which is a pretty long ride from the Main Terminal on the inter-terminal train, so I reluctantly agree.

The mysterious stranger says "follow me" and instead of taking me back toward the main terminal hub, he takes me to a door labeled no access. He punches in a code and the door opens and he heads down the stairs. Not quite knowing what's going on, I follow. There's nobody else around and I'm actually beginning to fear for my safety. I start checking out possible escape routes and realize that I'm pretty much trapped and all the corners on the stairwell are blind. Anything could happen and there would be no witnesses. Sure he has an ID and a code, but how hard are those to actually obtain?

We go down another flight of stairs and through another door marked no access which he again opens with either a key code or an ID swipe. The door opens and we are out on the tarmac. And parked not ten feet away from the door is a shiny new Porsche Panamera with "Delta" on the back window. I know that whatever's going on, it's legitimate.

My new best friend takes my little attache bag and places it in the hatchback and motions me to get in the passenger seat. He gets in the driver's seat, starts it up and proceeds to drive me from the Main Terminal to Terminal E. We're on the service roads that run parallel to the runways, and we get stuck behind a couple of luggage tugs, but we make pretty good time. He points out the soon to be completed new International Terminal and we discuss Delta's plans for the recently acquired U.S. Air terminal at LGA and Terminal 4 at JFK.

When we arrive at Terminal E, he parks the car, takes my bag out of the hatchback, takes me through more key coded doors and up through an elevator and carries my bag almost into the Sky Club for me. He shakes my hand, thanks me again for my loyalty to Delta and gives me a card with a special e-mail address for Delta Elite Services Team and he's gone.

I'm left standing there shaking my head. Amazing! Damn, sometimes it's good to be Diamond.

Yes, I see that now. I should really be more active on these forums. Still, a nice little perk from Delta. Looking forward to the threads complaining about the service not being as good as people said it was.

Amazing $255. I got 2 sets last year as I went from 2M level to 3M March 1 and DL sent me a 2nd set with 3M. I could have sold them $1K. Why would anyone want them?

I'll be going through ATL on an INTL trip in a few weeks. Is this guy only looking for the DM tags on my carry-on bags or is there any other way to connect with him to try this mysterious new amenity?

It's a ticket to priority security. Perhaps the person who flies 6 times a year thinks this is a good value. Or maybe they think they get upgrades just for having the tag, or perhaps Sky Club access. Or maybe it's because the winning bidder has retracted 12 bids within the last 6 months and has no intention of actually paying.
