Business card Recon Line:
April 2024: BOA Biz Recon (Small Biz Lending, Credit Analyst) 888-782-7717, 888-569-4439 (M-F 8am-7pm EST), both answered by live human in 2-4 minutes. (Both numbers confirmed multiple times in the past 2-3 days.)
866-695-6598 (8-7pm EST M-F)
Biz card status line: 888 663 6262 (not working)
Biz Card credit analyst line: 888-782-7717
Biz card expedited shipping: wait 24 hours after approval for a card number to generate then call 800-901-9830 and a person will answer. If 1st Rep says "no" ask him/her to ck. with a supervisor. This worked for me.

Credit Inquiries
Credit Inquiries for Personal cards come from BofA. Inquiries for business cards come from FIA.
Credit bureaus usually merge inquiries from the same requester made on the same day.
Inquiries from BofA and FIA will not be merged.

Does one have to call BoA to lower a card's credit limit?
Yes, there is no longer any way to contact BOA online. Phone is the only method currently.

When do the initial bonus miles post? You will get the miles after the statement closes for the cycle in which you meet your minimum spend. Usually AS points show up the Sunday evening after your statement closes, but sometimes it takes an additional week.

If there's a statement credit, when does it post?
It seems to be batch-processed. It will post automatically. Can be on the same statement or the next statement. It does not appear to be based on the statement close date.

Can you send a secure message through your account online?
No. BOA has removed the secure message functionality, even for Preferred members. The only way to contact BOA now is to call them.

Can I apply for another personal Alaska card if I have one open already?
Some people still can, but these days many people get denied. If you don't want to risk getting denied, it's probably better if you close any existing personal Alaska cards before applying for another one. But be sure to lower credit limit as low as possible at least a few business days before you close the card (though the earlier you can do it the better), because credit limit that's left on the card when you close it stays unavailable to new card applications for a year or more (while credit limit that's lowered as a separate step becomes available to new card applications much sooner)!

Closing Bank of America credit card rules?

I have a Alaska Airline Business card that I need to close because the annual fee just hit. Do I need to reduce the credit line, move it to another card, or just close it. Thanks for your help.

I should think the card issuer would be able to tell you. Asking them this question won't obligate you to do anything or get you into any sort of trouble.

It's better to reduce your credit line a few days before you cancel any BofA card. The reason: At BofA, credit that is reduced before you cancel becomes available to you for new applications within a few months, while credit limit that is still on the card at the moment it is closed stays unavailable for new applications for over a year!

Thus it depends on whether you might want to apply for another BofA card in the next year or so.

After hearing about the new policy from Alaska Airlines today, have decided to cancel AS Visa . Companion code has almost no value to us now that any changes made will incur a $125 change fee per passenger. No longer able to book out and them firm up plans closer to travel. Have one code and will try to use it before June 5. This is the date that new policiesbegin. Check out AS forum for more.

Sorry to tack on a different question here, but the title fits, so I didn't want to create another post.

A few years ago, I had 2 Amex cards and I closed 1 of them. The one I closed was an old account and the one I kept was a new one. When I closed, Amex was able to date the new account to the same as the opening date of the old one, so my account aging wasn't negatively affected. Does anyone know if BofA can do this?

What you're asking about is called "transferring credit history". And whether its available may depend on exactly which two cards you're talking about and their relationship to each other (for example, it may not be available for a combination of a personal and business card, etc). It's not as simple as "it always works" or "it never works".

So the simplest way for you to figure it out is to ask BofA about your specific situation. (See, the situation you had at Amex may also have been different had you had a different combination of two cards you were asking about.)

I was reading through the thread and noticed a few people applied for the biz and the personal cards both on the same day. I was wondering what was the advantage of doing this since the wiki states the HP does not combine?

I suppose that is the most reasonable course. I will have to ask about closing the old BofA card, though. Will that affect the answer I get?

Just for clarity, the old Amex card was a Blue for students, and the later one was an EDP. The old BofA card is a cash rewards or whatever it is called (never use it) and the new one is a Merrill+. I know the former is better than the latter for spending but I pretty much don't use either. Not a big deal if I cant close one.

AMEX stopped backdating new account openings back in 2015. (This is regarding the date report to credit bureaus - you may still have a meaningless "Member Since [some old date] stamped no your card.) This was normally an automatic thing for AMEX cards, not something one had to request or dependent upon specific cards.

https://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Cre...s/td-p/3907659

I've never heard of BofA having a similar practice of backdating primary accountholder cards in its credit bureau reporting. Certainly it's never happened with any recent BofA cards of mine or my wife's. They and some other issuers may backdate an authorized user's card reporting to match the opening date of the primary account holder, but that's different from what I believe you're asking.

You can of course call BofA and confirm. In any case, unless you have a very thin credit file, closing your existing BofA card and adding a new AS card (presumably that's what you have in mind) is unlikely to have a substantive impact on your score.

Applied for the biz card and it went to pending. I called in and they requested last 2 years of tax returns. I was able to email them in. Rep recommended I call back in to get an update on Friday. I opened 2 personal and one biz in 2017. All of them were closed as of about a month ago.

My history:

AS personal 1: Opened Dec 2016, Closed Dec 2017 (Instant Approval)
AS business A: Opened Apr 2017, Closed Apr 2018
AS business B: Opened Apr 2017, Still current
(I applied for both AS A&B on the same day and both got approved 3 days later)
AS personal 2: Opened Jan 2018, Still current (Approved next day)
No other card history with BofA.

I'm on the fence on whether or not to close AS biz B. If I close it and apply for another biz card at the end of this year, I'm afraid to be asked to send tax docs (currently not living in USA). If I ignore their request, would it jeopardize my future personal card applications?

Just so I'm clear, if I was offered and set up the CD for the Bis card I will be approved right? I've seen some people say it takes 30 days after setting up to get the card. I set mine up friday but havent heard anything back. Is there anywhere I can check my status? Anything further I need to do?

Secondly, My personal got approved for a platinum and the CSR told me to just reapply after 5-6 months. Can I apply for a signature and then after approval convert my platinum to a signature and hold 2 personals?

Should be good to go with the business card. In my own recent experience with just this, I did my best to verify "if I get this CD, I am getting the card, right?" and they always said yes. As in, I have no interest in doing this if it's still a maybe. I believe if they offer you the secured card option then it's a done deal, because if it's secured, then it's well, secured. They do not give you any notification after setting up the CD. It just takes a loooong time. I gave a pretty detailed play by play of everything including the dates in my above posts.

By the way, it took so long to get the card, my first statement closed about a week after getting the card. I did an immediate ~$1,000 charge right before the statement closed (unintentionally) so I got my miles really, really quick.
