Just received 2,500 bonus points for retention.

AF hit about 3 weeks ago, called to cancel. Mentioned that i was MVP and receiving most of the card benefits anyways now, although I don't think that mattered. She mentioned something was already showing on my account without needing an explanation.

Took the offer.

Wife's AF is just about due. She hates any card with an AF (even if it comes with a companion fare) so called to cancel. No miles offer, but accepted offer to convert to the no fee Travel Rewards card.

Got follow up call and then mailing to call BofA regarding the conversion. Rep she talked to said wife would lose her miles if she closed her Alaska card () which annoyed wife to forgo the Travel Rewards card and cancel entirely.

Transferred to a retention rep who after chatting, agreed to cancel existing card and open another one with 30K sign up bonus. Unsurprisingly, letter arrived today that new card app was denied due to "sufficient number of accounts".

Did she get hit with a hard pull for the new 30k card?

Not sure. Letter says report says report was pulled from Experian but the wife isn't interested in checking (see her reaction to AF even if the companion code pencils it out).

Was planning on keeping card anyway for Companion Ticket but called for a retention offer and the agent offered me 2,500 bonus miles with no required spend. She would not waive AF. I accepted offer.

Did your AF post already? If not when is it supposed to post?

Just depends on what your annual spend is. I pay everything I possibly can using credit cards. Just like you I have to use a corporate card for corporate travel, but everything else goes on my personal cards. So for the AF I get that companion ticket, and at least another economy ticket a year out of it.

Then there are those who manufacture spending and rake in a few more tickets per year. Too much effort with too much risk for me to deal with it though.

no love

AF posted a few days ago. Called and no retention offer. No surprise as my DW didn't spend much on it. We'll wait a couple months and see if we can get her a new one.

Conversion: No longer interested in AS Visa Signature due to home base transfer. Rang in and said I'd cancel unless BofA rep could convert me into the no-free Travel Rewards product. Friendly rep did so in three minutes without a murmur.

Any recent offers for retention? Thinking about calling and canceling the card, but want to see if they will offer me.

Nothing when wife and I both canceled a few weeks ago.

Hi All,
Quick question before canceling my Alaska cards... I have one Alaska personal and two Alaska business cards. In my Alaska Airlines account, I have these listed as the companion fares (four for some reason - annual fee should be posting soon):
Special Fare Bank of America Companion Fare Cities... Varies 08-28-2017
Special Fare Bank of America Companion Fare Cities... Varies 09-11-2017
Special Fare Bank of America Companion Fare Cities... Varies 09-11-2017
Special Fare Bank of America Companion Fare Cities... Varies 06-11-2018

I assume if I cancel all 3 cards that I will lose all these companion fares? The only relevant one is the last one since I might possibly use it next year. But not likely enough that I should renew the card though...

But my points will be unaffected, right? Thank you,
--Kyle

Yes. Your posted miles are unaffected by credit card account closure. Your companion codes should be unaffected as well and remain in your Mileage Plan account. See the Companion Fare thread in this forum for hints on effectively extending a companion fare using a placeholder booking.

The last code is an interesting case. I thought that the annual code will only post after the annual fee hits the account. Not sure if that one would be clawed back if you got BofA to reverse the AF on closure.
