Business card Recon Line:
April 2024: BOA Biz Recon (Small Biz Lending, Credit Analyst) 888-782-7717, 888-569-4439 (M-F 8am-7pm EST), both answered by live human in 2-4 minutes. (Both numbers confirmed multiple times in the past 2-3 days.)

Biz card status line: 888 663 6262 (not working)
Biz Card credit analyst line: 888-782-7717
Biz card expedited shipping: wait 24 hours after approval for a card number to generate then call 800-901-9830 and a person will answer. If 1st Rep says "no" ask him/her to ck. with a supervisor. This worked for me.

Credit Inquiries
Credit Inquiries for Personal cards come from BofA. Inquiries for business cards come from FIA.
Credit bureaus usually merge inquiries from the same requester made on the same day.
Inquiries from BofA and FIA will not be merged.

Does one have to call BoA to lower a card's credit limit?
Yes, there is no longer any way to contact BOA online. Phone is the only method currently.

When do the initial bonus miles post? You will get the miles after the statement closes for the cycle in which you meet your minimum spend. Usually AS points show up the Sunday evening after your statement closes, but sometimes it takes an additional week.

If there's a statement credit, when does it post?
It seems to be batch-processed. It will post automatically. Can be on the same statement or the next statement. It does not appear to be based on the statement close date.

Can you send a secure message through your account online?
No. BOA has removed the secure message functionality, even for Preferred members. The only way to contact BOA now is to call them.

Can I apply for another personal Alaska card if I have one open already?
Some people still can, but these days many people get denied. If you don't want to risk getting denied, it's probably better if you close any existing personal Alaska cards before applying for another one. But be sure to lower credit limit as low as possible at least a few business days before you close the card (though the earlier you can do it the better), because credit limit that's left on the card when you close it stays unavailable to new card applications for a year or more (while credit limit that's lowered as a separate step becomes available to new card applications much sooner)!

Thanks a lot in advance.
What's your total CL across all currently open CCs, and what did you report as income for your latest BOA app?

about 150K total CL, and 6 digit income.
How does this matter? Thanks.

Well, the card you closed still counts toward 2/3/4, and so depending on exactly when in 2016 and exactly when in 2017 you opened each BofA card, you may be out luck for a BofA personal card for a while, due to this:

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cred...24-months.html

So stop applying for personal cards unless you know the procedure for "rescuing" a Platinum card approval (you try to get it converted to Signature immediately, even if that takes 2 months, rather than cancelling it).

Your only chance right now is probably applying for an AS business card, (which doesn't have a Platinum version, so you'll either be approved for a 30k bonus or just denied) but that has its own "sinkholes".

Also, were you lowering credit limit before cancelling each card? If not, that's why you only got a Platinum! Credit limit that's left on a BofA card after you cancel is not available to new applications for over a year.

When applied in Feb. it was within 2/3/4, but just out in March. I didn't lower the CL.
I believe that can explain why got declined in Feb, and approved with Platinum in March.
Now, does the Platinum card I got approved then cancelled count to 2/3/4?
Does "rescue" mean I should try to reopen that Platinum card?
Thanks again.

I read that as "rescue" before closing the card. Guess you could try to reopen and see if abovementioned "rescue" will work.

By "rescue", I mean calling up BofA "recon" (reconsideration) on the same business day it's approved for Platinum (before the business day ends), before they start processing it further. If you catch it early enough,, they can look at again to see if it's possible to give you $5k CL (which is the minimum required for the Signature). If so, they may be able to start a 2-month process (2 months for legal reasons) to get it upgraded to Signature.

But, while you're welcome to try now, we've never heard of that being possible after (a) you closed the card already, and (b) more than a day or so after the approval as Platinum. You may be able to re-open it as a Platinum, but I doubt you can re-open it and then also upgrade it to Signature and then still qualify for the Signature signup bonus. That would seem to me to be asking way too much of BofA at this point. Can't they can tell by looking at your BofA history: "oh, this guy only cares about 30k bonuses, not about having an Alaska card"? Or have you used your Alaska cards significantly after you earned the signup bonus?

And yes, a card that was approved and only cancelled after that is still a card account that was opened and then closed. So I would bet that it counts for 2/3/4.

Last week I downgraded my Alaska Signature to a Cash Rewards card. The next day I called in and lowered the credit limit. I have two Merrill+ cards open as well. I am clear of the 2/3/4 rule.

I want to apply for another Alaska personal card. Am I to understand that I need to wait another two months since I only just lowered my credit limit? The new credit limit is reflected in my online accounts. Or am I safe to proceed with the application?

I could also apply for the biz card I suppose - I do have a legit business, I just don't care for all the recon hassle. Does an Alaska biz have a fairly high rate of auto-approval?

Thanks all.

Just got off the phone with "Steve", my account specialist at Alaska Airlines (customer retention). He wanted to know several things before cancelling my PERSONAL CARD, including the 3rd line embossing on my business card and my mileage plan number. He did not immediately cancel my card, keeping me on the phone for about 15 minutes trying to convince me that I could lose my miles by cancelling. He kept saying that he was "fighting" for me not to lose them, but couldn't guarantee that I wouldn't lose them. He then stated that he could see that I open the card, get the benefits then close it a year later, and he thought this practice could make me lose my points too - but he was "fighting" for me, and again he couldn't guarantee I wouldn't lose them - he's seen it happen in the past with people who cancel their cards.. Then he tried reading terms from what sounded like application pages about how if the points aren't used in 2 years, they may expire and mixing in his own words to make it sound like I could lose them by cancelling. After continued trying to get him to tell me exactly how Bank of America would take my points back, he claimed it wasn't bank of america, it was Alaska Airlines that would take them away. He danced around a lot with pretend and amateur sounding legal jargon, I told him he better be careful: "you are walking a fine line of what is legal and illegal", and told him to cancel the card and he finally did - again after about 15 minutes.

Pretty aggressive they are getting!

Denied for 2nd Alaska Air (closed the 1st a week ago). Lowered my BoA credit limits beforehand. I am clear of the 2/3/4 rule.

Called to recon and was told I could submit a reconsideration request - no dice. Was asked about income, investments, and any delinquent credit card payments (none). Was told decision stands based on too many accounts opened recently (I've opened 8 in last 12 mo) and not enough investments with BoA or their affiliates. Income is $145k and investments around $50k.

Interestingly, I was told by someone on Reddit that I could open a BoA checking account, put a couple thousand dollars in it and call recon again. This individual stated they have done this and had their application subsequently approved after initially being denied Has anyone else heard of anything like this?

Alternatively, would it be smarter to open a BoA, park some money in it, keep a clean report for 3-6 months and try again?

Bottom line -- it DOES take some steps and most importantly about 30 days, but it really was pretty painless to open the CD and get the business card that way. I have zero issue doing that for 30,000 Alaska miles for $1,000 spend. I do not want to churn this card this way, but my intention was not to churn anyways, I just wanted to snag some Alaska miles for once. And anyways, the churning ability at all seems to have seriously diminished as just about all of us know now.
Finally got my card and activated it today. Took about 3.5 weeks after opening the CD in the branch to get the card.

It's been a long road to finally get 30,000 Alaska Miles but I feel very satisfied I didn't leave empty handed. I was too late to the personal card gravy train that I do not expect to EVER get one, let alone churn it, but I was happy to get at least one card at all considering I was late to this party.

New DP: I'm 18/24 for personal cards, and received an Alaska Biz card last year by opening a $1,500 CD to get the card. I was hesitant to apply for the personal card, but this week I did and was auto-approved for a $20K credit line. BofA is very strange with their approvals and credit lines.

I do have existing BofA Travel Rewards from 2013 and Merrill+ from 09/2017 as well.
