Its not personal. The chase denial was pretty likely (5 chase cards in under 12 months?). The Citi one was a coin flip. All you lost were inquiries. Big whoop. I don't even track them anymore. If it will make you feel better, fire off another app today.

Some reps are sweet as can be. Others not so much. Move on.

I would call Chase back in a couple of days. If you get a rude csr just hang up. Call back and say your cell phone dropped. This way you get a better csr. I got my CSP approved after three calls.

Thanks for that Rick! It gives me a little glimmer of hope. :-)

CURRENT CARDS:
--------------
5/2001 - Amex Blue
1/2006 - Citi TYP
1/2013 - Chase Sapphire Preferred
5/2013 - Amex Business PRG
5/2013 - Chase United Explorer
5/2013 - Citi AA Visa
5/2013 - Barclays USAir

Considering:
--------------
Chase: SW RR Premier Personal, SW RR Premier Business
Citi: AA Business

Was Considering:
--------------
Chase: Ink Plus or Bold
US Bank: Club Carlson

I'm planning on an AoR today or tomorrow with the Chase SW cards (i.e. companion pass) in mind. My gf and I usually travel at least once internationally (mostly Europe) and 3-4 times domestically per year. We usually fly United/*A, but I also started diversifying into AA miles for a future South America trip.

I really want to get a Chase Ink card but usually some special offer (e.g SW 50K) trumps it. Hopefully the Chase Ink offer won't be going away any time soon. I don't have any hotel cards yet and was wondering if that's an achilles heel in my wallet. I haven't been staying at chain hotels much (mostly local boutique hotels) but I can change that habit if necessary.

Do you guys see any holes in my AoR plans? Did I overlook/miss any other more valuable cards?

Would like some advice about applying for Hilton HHonors no fee Amex card after having gotten the Jetblue Amex card in January and Starwood SPG Amex personal in May. My score has dipped to 705 on Credit Sesame. I was going to lay low for another couple of months but I have some Hilton stays coming up.

During the last couple of months I also picked up the Citi MC for 50,000 - 70 days ago and Alaska Airlines BOA. BOA gave me a 15k credit line (this large ish credit line might have brought my score down), and a Marriot Rewards card.

I'm thinking that Amex is the best bet, but perhaps Citi is more generous with the Hilton no fee card. I'm not sure but assume that the Surpass or Reserve require excellent credit scores.

I would recommend adding 2 more cards to you AOR from the list below

USB - Club carlson - I am from CA and I got equifax pull
Barclays arrival - Usually TU pull
BOA cards - Virgin Atlantic - 50K offer or Alaska air - 25K - 40K offer

BOA/Chase/Citi pulled Experion for me.
So if you choose to apply for BOA card, apply for this last.

I recently did a AOR and was approved for 5 of 7.

This comment indicates a fundamental gap in understanding of FICO scores, since a larger credit limit can only have a positive effect.

Recommend you spend some time absorbing the primer at http://www.myfico.com/crediteducatio...yourscore.aspx

Something else is going on... could be from the inquiries or AAoA or the inaccurate scoring model CS uses or something else entirely.

This is what I thought but I'm reading it can hurt approval, that's
my concern. So I can learn from this that it wouldn't necessarily,
probably won't, reduce my score but my goal is approval.

High limits never hurt your score but they can hurt your chances of getting approved for something. I have been declined for "sufficient credit with other lenders" no balances, just available credit like a couple of 30k limit cards with a 0 balance. THey say I have too much available credit for my income which is understandable. My credit limits total about 3x my income. I always pay in full, so there is no debt, but the available credit compared to income can scare away new creditors.

The thing is, what CS tells you might not mean squat. Sign up for Credit Karma and see what they say. Although that doesn't mean squat either.

Are you meeting the spend requirement? Your score might be down because your balances are hurting your ratio. Pay it up as soon as you can--don't wait for the due date, and you can see your score quickly increased. As a rule, try to keep you ratios in single digits by the day your statement is going out if you're preparing for an AoR.

Maximum number of cards in one app-o-rama?

I am planning an upcoming mega app-o-rama. By way of background I have been doing 5-7 card app-o-rama's on a quarterly basis for a few years until recently when I have been unable to get US Bank cards due to too many inquiries and Barclays was getting tougher, as well as denials at Penfed and some other institutions. Add in the fact I want to remortgage the house and I have taken a break for the past 6 months or so. During the break I have been using credit bumpage to wipe out inquiries and disputes to remove some account records that were closed by grantor. So my plan is to apply for the mortgage on day one, then on day two go on a mega app-o-rama spree. I have already lined up 11 potential cards across 9 institutions and would plan on calling recon immediately on any that don't get automatic approval. I guess I could be more conservative and wait until mortgage closes before going on spree, but that is down to my own risk tolerance and for me to work out myself.

What is the most number of cards and institutions you've managed to hit up in one spree?

Wanted to get some advice for an upcoming AOR... Looking for hotel points, as well as to diversify airline points (pretty much running on empty on all my accounts).

Recently applied for Club Carlson, but was denied for too many inquiries.

Thinking of applying for Citi AA, AMEX SPG, Chase Hyatt, then 8 days later applying for Citi HH Honors (although not too concerned with HH points, so I may skip it).

I'm a little concerned with Chase, since I've gone through CSP, Southwest Business, Southwest Personal, and Mileage Plus in the last 1.5 years. The Hyatt card is a big one though that I'd really like to get for 2 free nights for an upcoming honeymoon.

Any other cards I'm missing?

Unless things have changed very recently, most mortgage companies/banks will do a second credit pull right before closing. I would wait until after closing to do your mega apporama.
