FlyerTalk Forums Expert How-Tos and Guides
Last edit by: Ocn Vw 1K
In order to reduce noise in the Coronavirus / Covid-19 : general fact-based reporting thread, and to create a central place to invite any member to ask a basic question about the impact of COVID-19 on travel, your moderators have decided to open this separate "lounge" thread for related discussion that isn't strictly fact-based reporting.
Any member who can provide a constructive, helpful answer to a question; or post constructively in reply to a member's point-of-view, is welcome to post.

All FT rules apply, including avoiding personalized, snarky, political, other off-topic, commercial, and repeatedly disruptive content.

Discussion of general economic impacts of Covid-19 belongs in the OMNI forum, not here.
Discussion and critique of political/government actions to aid the economy or which is far more political than related to COVID-19 is for the OMNI/PR forum, not here.

This is a protocol for posting adopted by the forum Moderator team:Please follow this protocol, based on FlyerTalk Rules and long-standing FlyerTalk best practices. Doing so will help keep the thread open, and allow our moderator team to aid members, rather than having to resort to discipline.

•Constructive, respectful posts, views, opinions, questions, and replies, related to the topic are welcome. Avoid commenting on members personally, or posting off-topic or political messages.

•While respectful disagreement of a posted view is allowed, don’t call-out posters to prove their points. FlyerTalk has never required discussion standards at the level of a Ph.D. dissertation defense, or a trial court witness cross-examination.

•After a reasonable exchange of views on a point, please yield the floor so that others may bring up different topics, questions or points.

•Especially important in this time of pandemic, when normal life and travel have been upended: please take regular breaks from the thread.
Please stay healthy,

your FT Coronavirus and Travel Moderator Team.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...m-hospitalised

Key takeaways:
- CoV spread beyond spring 2021
- 80% of British population expected to get infected within 1 year
- 15% of those infected likely require hospitalization

I told you guys earlier already, travel will be blocked beyond that time frame

Think about it, if you impose travel bans now, why on earth would you allow travel if more people get infected?

Maybe it was edited? The broadcast I watched certainly featured Fauci emphasizing the undesirability of travel or mingling publicly in close proximity to others.

Not sure what paid sick leave and free healthcare would have done to alleviate the outbreak of the disease?

Saturday morning Finnish national broadcaster YLE showed a Q&A session with a medical expert and the last question was if bathing in a sauna can kill the SARS-CoV2 and the answer was that unfortunately this won't help. And a proper sauna should be warmer than 50 °C!

No sick leave encourages people to work sick which is really bad.

Our local discount grocer is doing this which I find VERY sensible, IMHO. Also enact some sort of sensible upper limit of items per person (e.g. not 100 rolls of TP) and that's a good deal.

ijkh and notquiteaff like this.

Death rates and the overflowed hospitals in 3-6 weeks depending on where you are will say it all.

These are the things they have spent their energy on fixing, supposedly, and describing them as "accomplishments", which are considered basic social benefits in most western countries. They could have used the time more productively...

It’s social distancing. Not prison. If you have the ability to walk outside without close proximity of others (social part) or taking public transportation, I see no reason to do it. Just don’t stop at your favorite coffee shop and hang out with a bunch of friends to swap corona war stories over a cuppa joe and a muffin.

Vegas resorts are beginning to shut down.

from CNN:

https://www.cnn.com/world/live-news/...a50943215365799 min ago

Las Vegas resorts begin to shut down operations

The Las Vegas strip is feeling the effects of coronavirus as a number of resorts and casinos close in an effort to create social distancing.

Wynn Resorts has announced it will close its Wynn Las Vegas and Encore properties beginning on Tuesday and continuing for two weeks.

MGM Resorts will close its properties, announcing casino operations will close on Monday and properties will close on Tuesday.

Caesars Entertainment announced on their verified Twitter that all live ticketed performance would be suspended beginning Sunday night.

Las Vegas Review Journal reports:

All full-time Wynn Las Vegas and Encore employees will continue to be paid during the shutdown, and a limited number of employees and management will remain at the properties to secure and maintain the facility.”

Oh great, so are they just throwing out guests staying at these properties onto the street? How is that supposed to improve social distancing?

There are other lodging establishments in Vegas that will probably remain open. Don’t think anyone will have to join the homeless population in the tunnels after getting kicked out of the Wynn.

If I had been in Vegas, I would be on my way home already.

That's not hard, Macau's branches of those same casinos had to close last month too. Use their plans.
