How about an H fare to HNL for a taste of paradise or a open jaw to LON and return from CDG with the connection on Eurostar or, my favorite, a flight from LCY-CDG on an AF Avro RJ85?

I like your latter ideas!!!

I booked my two IAH-AUS runs for this Friday, which will put me at Silver. Never thought I'd do a MR for Silver, but I think I'll regret not doing it when I start traveling again next year.

If nothing else, it excites me to see "Elite Upgrade Notification" in my inbox for the first time in a while this year. :D Yeah it's a 30 minute flight, but I'll take what I can get!

LCY is simply a great airport with a great location and ease of use - it is my preferred airport when flying to London. I can only imagine what it will be like riding an A318 out of there when BA starts service to JFK. Even with a light load of fuel, it will need every foot of that short 4900 ft runway!

The RJ85s are great fun to say the least and can not be seen anymore in the States now that NW retired them from their fleet.

Plus the open jaw avoids paying the ridiculous UK departure taxes on business class tickets should you decide to upgrade.

I'd like to snag an RJ85 ride. They're such a goofy-looking aircraft.

I've flown on Mesaba's RJ85 MSP-YQR, and I have to say that it didn't leave a strong impression on me - and in general, I remember new plane types very well. All I remember were the narrow seats.

They were great when NW flew them in the States - the first RJs with first class seats. I admit, they do look goofy but they are perfect for the STOL airports in Europe. I take Swiss from GVA-LCY always enjoy the special nature of the flight. Come to think of it, I have flown the 4 engines 4 short runways specials operated by Northwest (Mesaba), Cityjet, Swiss and Brussels.

Saw a bunch of them at ZRH this past April. Neat looking aircraft.

See any MD-11s as well? Those are becoming rare on this side of the Atlantic.

Not that I can recall. I always keep my eyes open for aircraft we don't see here often. I recall seeing a couple of AC and NW rj85s at PIT a few years ago. Haven't seen the rj85s since.

CO Specials

Want to go to PTY for $299 R/T out of IAH? Lots of specials to Mexico this weekend as well. I wish I could go to ACA for $229.

Awesome! My new passport will get its first stamp!

Canada frequently doesn't stamp US passports. But if they don't do it automatically, just ask and they will.

Mesaba's RJ-85s had wider seats than many airlines put in that plane. They had a 2-2 arrangement in F and 2-3 in Y; many airlines do 3-3 in Y, including the old BAE-146s that used to fly out of DEN for UA. The seat dimensions on the RJ-85 were actually some of the largest in both classes of service for any domestic NW planes.

I only flew the type once, on RDU-MEM in 2005. I was one of about six passengers in F. Overall it was a good ride, and very quiet.
