Don't all rush at once to book flights .... seating is limited, and is by appointment only ... you need a gilt edged invitation to enter the Brit Compound to see the beginning of the Lake House construction ....:D

Gilt edged invitation extended to everyone and his/her dog....:D:D:D

Dunkin' may or may not be provided, depends on how I feel!

And here I was expecting Sainsbury red label.

I am writing a condensed bio of my mother for the 25th anniversary of her business. I wonder if the line I wrote about her consumption of Mylanta being inversely proportional to how well the Devils played that night will stay in the final edit. :D

Debate time. Do I book a flight based on the assumption I may have a job in 4 weeks or just assume I do and only need to take off an hour early to make the flight?

You book it at the worst possible time during the day (i.e. morning), to guarantee you have a job. :)

Do B&N eBook downloads play nice with a Kindle?

I believe eBooks downloaded from B&N are in a DRMed ePUB format. So, you have to break the DMCA to do it, although it's trivial (just as it's trivial to break the DRM on Kindle, which uses a DRMed MOBIpocket format natively for purchased books).

I just Googled "remove drm from barnes and noble" and found a command-line script that would do the job. Once the DRM is stripped, the free eBook management program called Calibre can easily convert the ePUB to a format the Kindle can handle (MOBI). I'd be surprised, though, if you could find an eBook B&N sells that Amazon doesn't.

My local library offers eBook checkout in a variety of formats, none of which are natively Kindle-friendly. So, I use a similar approach to remove the DRM, convert it, then just delete the book manually when my checkout period is over.

I was thinking of doing that for that reason.

If you think an offer is coming, book the flight and cite your booking of the flight before the accepting of the offer. I have never had a problem explaining existing travel this way.

I need to play with one of these and see if I could abandon the idea of carrying paper books.

I only ask about B&N because my loyalty there ensures a nice stream of CO RDM's every year.

Anyone has insight as to why outbound flights from IAD to LAX have been canceled for flights after 1700?

This from a co-worker at IAD who says all airline flights have been canceled.

If anyone is interested in going to a birthday party of a former co-worker in East Brunswick on the evening of the 23rd. let me know. His words are

Bring along friends and whatever you would like to drink.

I’ll have mixers and light food.
Yes, Box type crowd of engineers if you can believe that.

Aaah ... but you'll do such a great job today that you'll ensure it will ;)

Weather is clear in IAD. Maybe the chance of rain in LAX is causeing all of the airport employees to call out?

I don't have an offer in the works. Only thing in the works at the moment will take 6 months if it's successful.

I got a Kindle back in September/October (right around the price drop) and I love it. So much nicer to only have that in my bag versus several books for a trip. I'm a fast reader, so I can knock off a decent-sized novel (4-500 pages) on an ORD-west coast flight.

If you go with a Kindle + B&N eBooks, drop me a PM and I can walk you through the process to make the books readable on Kindle. Once you've got it setup, you can convert a book with a minute or two in front of the computer.
