You do know that Yosemite is not in Utah, right?

I believe his comment was related to the latest round of crazy coming out of California and that he would like to move his favorite natural wonders, among them being Yosemite, out of California and into Utah so he could hit Yosemite, Bryce, and Zion all in one trip. :-:

Quick queries:

1) The tourist visa fee for Santiago (for a US citizen arriving by air): is it $100 or $131?

2) If you are arriving in Buenos Aires by sea, does anyone know what the entrance visa cost is for a US citizen?

3) Is there a departure tax required to be paid by one who is flying out of EZE?

I think it is $131 at SCL. I don't have my passport on me now (which has the receipt), but I do recall it being more than $100, and $131 sounds right. You only get charged the fee if you land and enter the country at SCL.

I think Argentina's new entry fee is only levied at EZE.

EZE does indeed have a departure tax, but I do not recall what it is (Maybe ~$35).

ETA - Avoid the SCL entry fee by going via LIM, then making your way into Chile via LIM-IQQ. Could make an interesting stopover, as well. IQQ used to be Bolivian, until Chile snatched it from them (and cut off their sea access) during the War of the Pacific. Bolivia is still pissed off about it. It's not far from there to the Atacama, where there are some stellar resorts (but pricey - Explora is insanely expensive).

Well my Homeowner's Insurance contractor is finally providingng me with some pricing on repairing the roof damage from TS-Ida(after 6 visits)

HO's has agreed to replace 7 squares of shingles for $300 plus 500 deductible I've already paid. That cost is for 3 sheets of plywood(sheathing)that will likely need to be replaced. HO said they'd assume damage to shingles but not sheathing but as the shingles will already be pulled in 4 different places the cost is for materials and remove\install only of the plywood as my part.
That includes water damage to inside of home as well-1 sheet of gypsum, respray ceiling and insulation

Contractor has offered to add a cricket-small dormer like device at backside of chimney to help divert water to each side of chimney better.

Further contractor has agreed to replace the entire roof(ridge vent, flashing) for only 3400.00, that includes the sheathing and cricket. So net for roof is 3400-300-450+500=$3150(does not account for interior damage as it's not broken out in anything I've received, yet). This is for 19 squares total

Seems like a mighty good deal to me. Perhaps I ought to call some other roofing contractors and see what 19 squares would cost.

I'm inclined just to have it ALL done. The roof is 12 years old(hurrican Fran got the last one)

It certainly wouldn't hurt to see how much it would cost to do the whole thing since you're at the roof's half life point. It's the slow time of the year for roofers so you might get a good deal.

She said the passenger manifest said Joan. I wasn't paying too much attention to it but I'm wondering what the piece of paper she showed the camera was that had high lighted stuff was that she tore up when she said "this is for all the passengers that Contental has screwed over." As you said, this is a complete 180 from the other day.

United offers new "sale" fares to Hawaii. They're more expensive than they were pre-sale. Go figure.

Ah. I see.

Of course, I can't be expected to read people's posts in context, can I? :)

Thanks. My mother just found out today that she is going on a South American cruise, for which she leaves on Friday. I'm trying to get all the basic details down for her.

That's the sort of attention to detail that requires billing in 6-minute increments. :-:

Okay, but aren't you going to get hit with the 1% or 2% foreign transaction fee surcharge?

windwalker Jan 13, 2010 10:23 am

I stopped doing that a few years ago.

Sale no longer covers the dates I originally looked at. IAH-XXX-LIH was $456a/i two days ago on those dates. It's now $1,200.

I think they bill it in Dollars, but don't recall precisely. Some cards have no such surcharge, but it's doubtful your mother has one unless she was purposefully seeking them out during limited periods of offer/availability.
