BCN is a great place - I think I preferred it over MAD.

As far as the smoking goes - my lungs are just clearing from our Thanksgiving trip to MAD. :D They are like chimneys - and nothing we can do about it, unfortunately.

I agree on both counts. Every time I go out to dinner in Spain my clothes end up reeking of cigarette smoke, although at least the places I tend to go to make a pretense of having a non-smoking section.
