Today's my b-day. I'm off to dinner with family this evening, some drinks in NYC later on, then Air Canada to YUL (via YYZ) in the morning for New Year's with naughty Quebecois...
Hope you don't have to CHANGE your driver's license. ;) :-: |

the 3.5% down payment requirement.
I was very tempted with a sub 10% down payment due to the ring I was purchasing as well as the upcoming wedding cost but, again, when I factored in the full cost of carrying that much with the interest (even at a sub 5 rate) it didn't make sense. I'm still watching expenses closely and paying back the money I took out from my IRA and 401(k)* and in retro-spect I think I made the right moves. *my FA balked when he heard me bring that up and then I told him, even with a 10% penalty for non-repayment (which I wasn't planning on doing) it would be my best return for '09 he consented that the traditional thought process on 401(k) loans was no longer applicable. @:-) |

I believe that's where that chicken escaped to. @:-) "Will the person leaving a chicken at security checkpoint T3, please return to claim your lost item." Hah. I still crack up thinking about that announcement. Next time I fly to SFO I'm going to claim CO lost my chicken. :-: I'm sorry CO is only responsible for clothing and toiletries. Damages to luggage are limited to the frame and obvious destruction caused by tire marks when the rampers play field soccer with your bag. ;) :D |

Careful going in that low. I've heard of a few people who went in with sub 5% down FHA loans, with commitments, only to have the bank get skittish at the closing table. Not sure what their credit and income / debt ratio was, but they did have the commitments from the bank.

Happy Birthday, HeathrowGuy!!!
Boarding for NRT in about 30 mins. Feeling pretty good after approximately 1 hour of sleep in the past 36 hours. We'll see how long that last. |
Nice to see that FT is back up and running...

That being said, since I hate banks with a passion and all the paperwork that buying a house entails, if and when I decide to purchase a place, I'll be buying mine with cash. |

I have been repeatedly assured due to the FHA process that this will not be an issue. If it is, there will be several heads rolling in addition to some remuneration for my time and frustration. :-:

United Premier Associate Up for Grabs.
I'm sure some hilarity will ensue as a result of this: I have a United Premier Associate membership up for grabs. Anyone how wants it themselves, or for a significant other/friend is welcome to it. To make this a little interesting, I'll be posting a quote at 1:30 PM PST. Whoever posts the first correct response as to the origin of said quote will win the rights to the membership.
Given this is a United offer, let the  begin. :D Disclaimer: The winner needs to PM me the United Mileage Plus number of choice by 11PM PST today, as the offer expires tomorrow, and I want to make sure I get it in on time. |

We just closed on our construction loan. It is valid for one year, after which there is a "balloon" payment!!! Thankfully, the bank has already told us they will convert it to a regular mortgage, so really there is no balloon due! Thank goodness.
