Just stepping in here. What's wrong with PS Elements? It's what I use on the Mac.

Aperture and Lightroom are quite a bit more capable, and also a bit more complex than Photoshop Elements. I was a long-time Photoshop CS user and was looking at all those products when I bought my Mac. Actually the Mac really has nothing to do with it, as you can get Lightroom for PC. Aperture and LR are great programs that are more workflow and collection management oriented. I did a trial of Lightroom and decided it was far more complicated than I wanted.
Photoshop Elements did everything I was used to in Photoshop CS, and for only $79. It was a no-brainer. Even if I were buying a PC, I'd be using Elements. Hope that helps! |

CM, what do you need in a photo editing application? That might help determine which options is best for you.
Keep in mind that iPhoto comes with every Mac so if your needs are basic, then iPhoto might be enough for you. http://www.apple.com/ilife/iphoto/ |

Anyone know how to make a stalled update in Vista go thru and finish installing? Apparently I'm not one of the cool kids that is allowed to start one of those OMNI Clinic threads. I'd rather rely on Box expertise than people I don't know as well in Travel Tech.
The folks in Travel Tech are reliable. They get called out pretty quickly by the other tech folk if they post something stupid. The advice is reasonably solid. |
Ah, that's true. iPhoto is already a very capable photo organizer with decent editing. Lightroom and Aperture are most valuable to advanced amateurs who shoot in RAW format, and both allow for integrated RAW conversions, non-destructive editing and organization.
If you're happy with Elements, then just stick with that or iPhoto. |
Just shoot me. The Significant Otter gets up at 4am to get to the hospital on time, and I'm a light sleeper (once up, can't fall back asleep). I don't get home in the evenings until 11pm. Is it possible to die from sleep deprivation?

Thanks for double-posting. I'm happy to clean up your mess. :D Your OMNI thread got moved to Travel Tech.
Randy Himself decided to move my thread despite my request that it be closed. His PM on the subject was somewhat condescending as well. I'm a JPEG shooter - I haven't yet messed around with RAW. Makes me think buying Elements and paying separately is still the way to go. As a current PC Elements user, I do like it very much. The only thing I've seen so far as a selling point for Mac products is nondestructive editing. |

The Canuck gets up at 5a for work, so I feel your pain. It took me about a year to get used to the cycle, as I was about as light a sleeper as there was (which isn't good for someone who travels a lot I might add). Now she could bring a lawn mower into the bedroom during that magical 5 o'clock hour and I wouldn't wake up. What's the significant otter's position? RN/PA/NP/MD/student for one of the aforementioned? The big problem with dating someone that gets up at 5a is that they go to bed at like 9p. Which is about when I get home... When I dated the ER doc I wanted to jump off a ledge because of the inconsistency with her schedule. 2 days 7a - 7p followed by 2 days off then 11p - 11a then a 3p - 11p. It's impossible to plan anything with someone that has a schedule like that. Plus, I'm not exactly an easy person to scheduling things with due to my erratic travel and work schedule. I think we saw each other more after we broke up. A couple other things to catch-up on box posts. I went from a full CS Photoshop user to Elements. It was a rough transition but now I'm fine with Elements for my home photo needs. It's a pretty good product at the price point if you're used to Photoshop and don't need the full functionality. Mackie, I was a big fan of Arrested Development when it was on the air. But, like every show I like, it was canceled (Newsradio, Homicide). I don't really remember which season stood out as being better than any others (maybe they were all consistently good) which is why I was asking if anyone had any thoughts on which one I should purchase. |

I use Lightroom on a MacBook Pro, the size of my photo library being the main reason.
With ~6,000 photos iPhoto seems to drag, so I invested in Lightroom and it's worked out very well. The organization and workflow stuff is what I needed. ^ |

She wants to do a general surgery residency, so I think early mornings are going to become a staple.
