Did the whole IAH airport go into meltdown last winter when they had snow? They have one de-icing machine?

I found it odd how quickly CO is moving to the cashless cabin. Not so much from the standpoint of testing to usage but from the standpoint of date of announcement to usage. They annouce today that tomorrow they will no longer take cash. Seems very quick to do the change over. Probably doesn't change the customers all that much but odd I felt.

An FA on my flight tonight mentioned that headsets would be $3 as of tomorrow and BoB would be soon to follow...

The forecasted temperatures for Houston don't seem to be low enough to support 6-8" of snow. Have they commented on that at all?

Speaking of forecasts - it looks like NJ may see it's first snowfall this coming weekend.

Maybe they could contact our new partners at US and find out about selling blankets and pillows on-board?

All of Houston goes into meltdown when there's even a hint of snow, sleet or freezing rain in the forecast. A 20% chance of same on the local news will cause a citywide stir. I think they have limited de-icing equipment, but certainly not enough to effectively run a hub during a major winter weather event (which are decidedly rare in these parts).

I think during the last one, it only caused a dusting at IAH, and delays were comparable to severe, prolonged thunderstorm activity (very very unpleasant, but not catastrophic like Ike or something similar). IIRC, it was New Orleans that really got dumped on with that storm. Some areas on the North shore of Ponchartrain recorded 8" or more.

It was just on the channel 11 news here...for Friday..but it is still highly speculative at this point. It certainly kept people tuned in...not often we see snow in the forecast here.

Finally I got a competent agent on the phone. He found the ANA space I wanted, but ANA refused to confirm it. He checked several times and with a supervisor. Has anyone else had similar issues with ANA?

Apparently the forecasts haven't taken into account some system that's supposed to dam up cold air over the great-lakes region, that the coming lows in the Gulf of Mexico can tap into. Again, that's all assuming that the dominos fall into place. I put more stock into the forecasting geeks at Weather Underground than the Weather Channel or local news outlets. They were spot on with forecasting Ike's path a good 18 hours before the major outlets (had it hitting Galveston dead-on, whilst the Weather Channel was still telling Corpus Christi to grab its ankles). They also did a superb job of predicting how extra-tropical Ida would develop into a superstorm Noreaster 5-7 days out, when most long-range forecasts showed a sunny weekend in the Chesapeake. :-:

No M&M needed. It is basically $100 off if you get a special, limited code from them and book in the next 3 days. Sadly that still doesn't get NYC-anywhere close to PRG below $550. :td: :td:

In my quest to find an important piece of paper buried on my desk I found a set of CO ear buds that hadn't self destruct. Version 1 that had fixed two prongs.

ooh -- details, please? I've not really left Teh B:rolleyes:x ... and I might need to book tix to the UK tomorrow...

Anglo Large Clawed Otter Nov 30, 2009 10:11 pm

CO is probably safe. Invariably, any time I get excited at even the slimmest prospect of significant snow in Teh Pit, my hopes are dashed. Since I even had the audacity to bring up the possibility, I will likely be rewarded with 80 degree temps and high humidity this weekend. :D
