"The DOT ruling was a good first step, but the apparent agreement that they reached with BA in terms of making customers 'whole' appears to fall woefully short of actually doing so," said sbm12, who bought a ticket from New York to Chennai and filed a small-claims-court case, which is scheduled to be heard by a judge on Thursday.

British Airways "sincerely" apologized to customers for the "inconvenience" and offered them a $300 discount on new tickets to India, but it imposed strict rules. The travelers' names must match those on the canceled bookings, they must make the new purchases by Thursday and complete their trips by Sept. 30, 2010."

Nice. I was emailing him over the weekend; glad to see that it made it into print.

I'm looking forward to my court date on Thursday, even if it does mean taking the gawdawful early Shuttle flight from DCA back to NYC and going straight to court from the airport.

I am glad he is covering it so "we" are able to get some leverage in the future.

Well he "exposed" the StarNet blocking thing and that didn't change at all. The DoT at least sortof got involved on this one but still it doesn't seem that they are 100% behind the customer. I need to email the DoT guy tomorrow for clarification.

As was noted by several of us, beating up on him for focusing on the expense side is a little unfair. Public Companies are under constant pressure from their investing base for profit in the here and now. Growing revenue is difficult in the short-term after you reach certain thresholds. In this way, GB was "lucky" (so to speak) because when you are at the bottom, you either go up or perish. Please note I am in no way running down GB's legacy here.

Moreover, the competitive environment that CO operated in during LK's tenure was just plain rough. It is really hard to offer "premium amenities" while charging $200 for transcons.

Finally, what really handicapped LK and CO (AA for that matter too) is that during LK's tenure, DL, NW, US and UA were using Chapter 11 like a form of alternative financing. CO did it in the 90s and GB to a greater or lesser extent had the benefit thereof. LK was on the opposite end while the other legacies did it.

While I think LK made a mistake or two, saying that he ran CO into a ground IMHO completely discounts the historical circumstances of his stewardship.

He has done a reasonably good job, double when you consider other airlines have been running in to Chapter 11, US, UA, DL, and NW. and or turning themselves into a s***show, UA, US. CO has been rather consistent.

Well, I think this is a much different situation as it involves revenue tickets and a foreign carrier plus questionable business practices. I guess we will have to see how it goes....

That dude who executed 4 cops in WA is due everything that happens to him when they find him. ^^ to the one cop who fought with him out the door until he collapsed and died. I mean seriously, what the heck is up with this world?

Woman just got home and interrupted a burglary. Intruder decided to punch her before fleeing (was just caught).

Now a kid on a dirt-bike just got hit by a car. Serious injuries.

Can you "standby" for an earlier or later train with an advanced purchase Amtrak ticket?
