How about I saw that in a DHCP scope, the def-gw being handed out was not in the same subnet as the scope subnet. That's bad, but everything was still working. Hmm. Just to be nice, fixed it, tested, everything still worked. Got a call 2 hours later, their IP telephony system is now having one-way voice. W.T.F! Changed the def-gw in the scope back, and the voice started working again. W:rolleyes:T:rolleyes:F:rolleyes:!!!

So yeah, tonight I'm roaching all the switches (HP ProCurves and Adtran NetVantas) and reconfiguring... and making sure the VLAN trunks between everything are *properly* working.

At least it's billable hours. :D^

ok sounds like a large network that is also badly designed :D

The latter, of course. I can say that since we've been brought in to replace the previous, ahem, support entity. :D

At iah on plane to atl. 73g landing gear lever has a "do not operate sticker on it." it may be awhile before I leave.

LOL, that would definitely be classified as a major whoopsie!

Not really that large, 150 end stations... just poorly designed and way improperly configured.

We have a WAN transit link between two places, it is run by a large company (non telco but a local utility) We have about 400 stations, but they called one day very concerned because we had almost 5000 MAC addresses in their address table....so long story short they moved us to dark fiber instead of them having and intermediate switch between our locations, services are much more reliable and a bit faster now. We have over 5000 MAC addresses now, but with proper subnetting/vlan/trunking etc when needed, it is not a huge deal, most of the MACs are virtual machines.

Hola Box!

Following up on my Fred Phelps comment the other night. There were no reports of him showing up for the military funeral so I'm assuming he was being a bl:rolleyes:w-hard.

The Patriot Guard Riders, however, showed up in force.^:D:-:

He heard the rumbling and decided not to make the drive with his inbred trolls.

Scenario like that, I'd make the wan transit a layer 3 link, that way the macaddrs wouldn't be crossing the link... that would be an L2 broadcast domain from hell. ;)

Once they gave it to us dark :D We did as we pleased, we wanted dark to begin with but it was 4x more. :D

That just means that maintenance is in the wheel well. Of course it also might mean a delay. :D
