If you can fly on the off times, off routes and off dates, CO's system is fantastic. If the planes don't break and you make your connection, CO's system is fantastic. However if you don't, then you've got (or at least from my point of view as a Plat on CO, EXP on AA and 1K on UA) a materially inferior product.

CO's having to play catch up and I don't think there's any way to argue against that and in the upcoming alliance we have seen (and I suspect we will continue to) CO having to improve itself (on the customer & loyalty front) more than UA.

The good news is that CO's is willing to change and adapt and do so in a manner that takes into consideration their stakeholders. They deserve major credit for this IMHO and it's a shame their peers have not adopted a similar philosophy of working with their customers.

I can sympathize with those who are upset at no longer being able to game UA's instrument-based system. Heck, I abuse the intricacies of BD's program on a regular basis, and my travel opportunities and experiences have been all-the-better for it.
