If you can fly on the off times, off routes and off dates, CO's system is fantastic. If the planes don't break and you make your connection, CO's system is fantastic. However if you don't, then you've got (or at least from my point of view as a Plat on CO, EXP on AA and 1K on UA) a materially inferior product.

CO's having to play catch up and I don't think there's any way to argue against that and in the upcoming alliance we have seen (and I suspect we will continue to) CO having to improve itself (on the customer & loyalty front) more than UA.

The good news is that CO's is willing to change and adapt and do so in a manner that takes into consideration their stakeholders. They deserve major credit for this IMHO and it's a shame their peers have not adopted a similar philosophy of working with their customers.

Sorry for the soapbox and I hope you continue to enjoy an excellent EUA rate. :)

there is a difference in you and them, even if your experiences may echo. That is in attitude. You have a very different attitude about it.
I can still enjoy hanging out with you at the beach :D We aren't arguing about petty things and having how bad CO is as a reply to everything even non airline related....

I can sympathize with those who are upset at no longer being able to game UA's instrument-based system. Heck, I abuse the intricacies of BD's program on a regular basis, and my travel opportunities and experiences have been all-the-better for it. I don't expect the gravy-train to last forever, but will certainly be sad when it does go.

As is the case with Continental, it is a time for CHANGE at United. And some people have a hard time accepting CHANGE, even when it's going to be for the better for many if not most.

I have actually taken flights on both bmi and bmi Baby. However, I haven't set foot on them since the status match.

I used to live in the UK. I preferred BD and FlyBE for domestic flying to BA.

While a nice fare, it requires me to get to JFK, which isn't cheap.

I abuse it, too, at least in theory (still haven't redeemed anything there, but I'm getting very close). The guy who said in one breath that the existing system was completely fair and in the other that it worked because he was the only one who understood it is the epitome of the problem. Of course, that could apply to CO as well. But we don't claim that it is fair, just that we understand it.

If you don't want any positioning costs, you can do IAH-ORD-CLT-BNA for $517++ on UA.

There's also teh Tampon Run.

And I would try to be available for drinks in BNA.

Just be prepared for higher taxes/fees/surcharges on reward tickets with :-:. My first BD redemption was an eye-opener. I still haven't redeemed anything with AC segments, because the incremental redemption price increase is just shocking.
