Are you coming to the Oct 24 DO in NYC? It might be fun to have a game of this...
I put out the invite for the trivia event that I'm doing all these questions for, but it's a Monday night...if people were so inclined to gather at someone's house who has sufficient space to do it, I would consider providing the questions for a Box Trivia Do. @:-) |

That can be arranged... ;)
Category #2 for tonight: the format is usually this. If you don't get the lead question, all other answers do not count for score. (No Googling...) Famous Dates: Lead: This happened only twice, on these dates: January 28, 1986 and Feb. 1, 2003. What is this? 1. July 20, 1969 2. April 14, 1865 3. Sep. 2, 1945 4. Feb. 3, 1959 5. April 12, 1861 |
Something that has always stayed with me regarding the RJR buyout was how KKR decided to go after it in the first place. I don't know if it's in the book or not, and is way too arcane for a movie.
KKR got in touch with an ex-Nabisco, pre-RJR guy in Jersey who told them that they were so profitable that the divisions were under directives to essentially waste as much as 500 MM a year. Otherwise, their earnings would have been too large, their P/E ratio would change, and the board had felt that they would have trouble keeping the stockholder base they had. On the other side, the cost per pack of cigarettes was next to nothing, but everyone was keying on the then-coming tobacco liability and keeping the total price down. The bidders were essentially ignoring the Nabisco side, and it was where all the value was. The moral: nothing is as profitable as brand-name food. |
Darn it! While I was out of the room, the next round starts. I'm behind the curve on this one already...

Ive been in and out today but have you guys discussed the US promotion? As mentioned yesterday I went from ~9 hour days to a solid 12 hour days so you gotta cut me some slack.
