Wrong on #1. Mr. Gates never attending the B-school. Undergrad only. Something tells me FedEx.

Mackieman Sep 17, 2009 6:03 pm

1. According to lore, the founding of this company was the result of a paper written for an economics class at the Harvard Business School. The man who wrote the paper is still the company’s Chairman, President, and CEO. Name the company.

FedEx. What didn't make the wording of the question is that depending on who you talk to, the paper got either a C or an F.

2. The Air Mail Act of 1934 banned the common ownership of airlines and aircraft manufacturers. William Boeing was forced to sell off components of his business under this law. Which major airline (now Chicago-based) was born of this corporate breakup?

3. What corporate merger (name both companies) was the subject of the book Barbarians at the Gate and the 1993 Emmy-winning TV movie of the same name?

RJR, Nabisco. The anecdote in the movie about an RJR private jet flying Ross Johnson's dog back home is true, by the way.

Warren Buffett.

That was my guess, too.

And a follow-up KKR trivia question: Which lodging chain, referenced in the Box in the last 24 hours, did KKR own at one time?

Evening, Box.

These full day sessions I've been doing have really thrown a spanner in the works in terms of keeping up with the Box

Anyway, off to PHX tomorrow to attend VJ's Mileage Run Seminar on Saturday. Meeting up with mnmag at the airport to add her as my PLAT companion in the hope of getting her an upgrade. Keep fingers crossed.
