It is an expensive way to get rid of a competitor, but not all that horrible if they can jack fares up as part of the deal. Plus they can probably get some cash for the planes as they dismantle the network.

Everyone has been saying that the industry needs less capacity. It is happening and I'm not sure that the industry is truly better off for it. But this is a pretty quick way to get to that point.

I think they see DEN as a huge potential cash cow, but that F9 is currently preventing them from maximizing that. Also, WN has a bunch of 73Gs on order from Boeing and they need someplace to put them. Taking over F9's operation at DEN gives them a quick and easy place to do that, provides a good connection point near the center of the country for West Coast-East Coast connections, and an experienced staff that can be retrained (probably cheaper and easier than hiring all new staff). And, it's cheap.

Not true. They've publicly stated DFW is gone. Yes, it's in the same market as DAL, but they have already specifically mentioned at least one airport that would be dropped.

Serves me right for getting my news on the deal from the WN forum. :o

Yep I'd expect they keep IAH before DFW. But I'd think IAH is on the radar to be dropped ASAP.

that being said the HAS has a lot better relations with WN than the DFW airport ever had or will.

Oh Happy Day! Looking at flights for my parents OMA-IAH-OMA for sept. and the IAH-OMA mainline service has changed to a reasonable 5:35 p.m.!!! The return is at 6:00 a.m. vs the previous 7 something but I hope it stays that way (except when Plus1 has to come along; then the 9:05 works better).

F9's DFW gate leases are up later this year, so it will be easy to get out of DFW quickly. Not sure what the terms at IAH are, but it may not be a big issue there either. I'm not 100% sure that F9 leases the gate it uses at IAH, as it's not only adjacent to AA's gates, but the counters and everything else at that gate is the same as what AA has at its gates. I suspect AA is handling services for F9 at IAH, and it's possible that F9 is subleasing a gate from AA.

Good marketing Chevy. While Ford has various new commercials with Mike Rowe, Chevy rehashes the old Howie Long spots bashing Honda. I don't know who the geniuses are behind that commercial but any new car in charcoal gray looks more expensive than a Malibu in silver when they are side by side much less an Accord.
