Any ideas why a brand new computer would repeatedly freeze up while in use? I've uninstalled all the crap it came with (which wasn't too much), downloaded and installed all of the Windows updates that were needed, and updated several drivers. Any other things to check?

I'm not a huge Home Depot fan either. But the staff at the Home Depot near us is generally a cut above that at our closest Lowe's location. Both still suffer from being too big and too difficult to quickly run in and out of when you already know exactly what you need.

I agree, on both counts!;)

I thought that sounded logical and looked.. and didn't see one. The boxes are split into groups though. Some are at the main office (which I went by today to pay my pro-rated rent for the last few days) and the others are at the 5 laundry centers scattered around the property. When I go to wash a load I'll look again, but I didn't see one at my mail box spot nor at the front office location.

Unfortunately that is very true. I'm a HD stockholder so I frequent HD all the time but some of their locations really have lousy empl:rolleyes:yees.

Hit ctrl-alt-del and see what processes are still running. You might need to registry-scrub out some pre-installed spyware from the company.

Also, it might be trying to update itself. Any background processes that relate to apps you didn't open in the current session yet still running? I use a program called System Mechanic that gets rid of registry clutter, programs I don't want, etc... might be worth the download for you.

Also, what antivirus are you running? If you have the hysteric (i cant actually spell that word, but you should get the point) detection set too high it'll be monitoring every single process you run looking for malicious code variants. Safe and secure, but that kills processing speed and load time.

Video drivers can cause that sort of issue.

There are a number of FTers who go out of their way to find such threads specifically to cause problems. You're seeing it live in action right now. Good times.

I know of no such instigators. :P

What did Event Viewer have to say? If you're using Vista, it's a pain to find now (Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> Administrative Tools).

If you bought a dell, HP, or any other cheaply assembled computer, if the CPU, Graphics card, or various cables were miss-seated during assembly you can get random errors.

I still hold shares of Home Depot and only go there:

A. When Lowe's doesn't have an item I need in stock now, or
B. When I've just redeemed Citi TYPs at a value of 1 cent each (paid for my new mower).

My pre-merger compaq is holding up pretty well. Even made it from FL to CA despite being in the trunk for tons of bumps and rough roads.
