I also love how eliminating a competitor would increase competition in DEN (and other cities).

A TRIP TO COSTCO

Yesterday I was at my local COSTCO buying a large bag of Purina dog

line when woman behind me asked if I had a dog.

What did she think I had, an elephant? So since I'm retired and have
little to do, on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was
starting the Purina Diet again. I added that I probably shouldn't,
because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50
pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out
of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.

I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that
it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply
eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally
complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to
mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with
my story.) Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because
the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off a curb to sniff
an Irish Setter's a$s and a car hit us both.

I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was
laughing so hard.

Costco won't let me shop there anymore.

Please post the pics when you can. That would be great. ^

By all means, blame the AP. When I was in college I read the news on the radio. We got our copy from the AP wire. Stories that were so awful I broke the law and rewrote them before I read them on air, lest I be tagged with using incorrect grammar.

WN is thinking about acquiring F9.

Sounds like WN is making a bid for F9 in bankruptcy court... This will make things interesting in DEN - especially for UA.

Since WN has always made it clear that they are a Boeing only shop, I wonder if we will see some A318/319/320s on the market...

Yes. They. Are. :p

Is that why my best friend's a well-paid pharma scientist instead of a well-paid pharma rep?

Competing bid to Republic. However, I think Republic still is in the lead unless WN is willing to throw up 1/4 billion. F9's debt to Republic's would have to be settled; otherwise Republic would be harmed by the court accepting a WN bid of the same / similar amount.

Probably, at least until the get the 737's to run the pieces of the F9 network that they want to hold on to. They should, IMO, raise the bid commensurate with an estimate of what the Airbuses and Q400's would fetch on the market.

With regard to an increase in competition coming from the loss of a competitor, they could have said it with the intent of a route-by-route kind of look at it. Who knows.

Right. That's why I was shocked someone would be competing against Republic for F9.

Someone at WN would certainly be throwing up if they paid that much for F9. @:-)

Is Not [Financially] Possible.

They're most likely doing it to bully Republic into paying more for F9.

Not a travel story but still pretty cool.

Anglo Large Clawed Otter Jul 30, 2009 12:39 pm

I hope US extends the validity of its MIA/FLL/PBI-PDX Q-UP beyond Sept. 7. I'd like to do it, but not until late Sept. May just have to make time. 42,000 BD miles (my calculation is weird, as I'm at 50K BIS, so not all will earn at 600%) aren't to be sneezed at, especially for $680...
