I do that too... But have a bad habit of forgetting them in my bag. That leads to a whole bunch of . Did that once with a banana. Wasn't pretty a week later...

I shot her the eye and her little "angel" has been better behaved for the last 15 minutes or so. Though we still have another 1h23 of flight left...

I once had about 10 packets of Pepperidge Farm Crackers smuggled out of various WCs and PCs. One day, those all broke open and left my briefcase

I've been raised by do-it-yourself people - that's why my family is driving my car and possessions across the country. Not because I asked them to, but because they think it's a good/fun idea (and i think they're going to stop at the World's Largest Ball of Twine).

That car is packed full of crap, it does not look at all like fun to drive it through Texas. But they are all excited and printing maps and getting tips on places to stop from the gals at the office. I think my trip to rendez-vous sitting in Y will be more pleasant if I don't get EAU'ed.

If anything they're probably saving me a month or more of rent in total cost by doing this - so I'm not looking that gift horse in the mouth.

The first sign of reality setting in for them came just the other day when it was reported to me that "the girls say there's nothing in Texas and it's boring" to which I replied "I hear there's a lovely festering pit somewhere in the middle.." and to which she replied "You mean like tar pits or or hot springs or something? That could be fun.."

I think i'm content to merely connect-through.. tar pits, hot springs, or not.

It will cost less than $250 to hire a local moving or unloading company to move a carload of stuff, including a bed, into the apartment. It's all fun and games until someone throws their back out or falls down a flight of stairs moving some crappy furniture up multiple flights of stairs. Just pay for it yourself and save them the trouble.

Seriously, hire an unloading service. I rented the truck and drove it from SAN to AUS (which was about as fun as outpatient surgery, by the way), but I had a loading service in SAN load the truck and an unloading service here in AUS unload it. It was worth every penny to not have to lug all that stuff around.

If something big actually makes it into that car at this point, I'll do it :)

As of about 5mins ago, I decided to let the last piece of real furniture go - my TV stand - in order to fit some of my oil paintings into the car. This is all subject to a complete unpacking and re-doing of course.

It's like tetris on a larger scale.. I keep googling new furniture to see how much it costs and have a heap with a running tally written in sharpie so I can decide at what point it's worth it to keep it or ship other items.

As it stands, Ikea is not going to go bankrupt as long as I'm around and I can get an orange leather couch. :)

Bed is on the "to buy" list. No back-throwing, I'll make sure it gets moved in proper-like once purchased.

Were you leaving a trail to follow home like Hansel and Gretel?

+1000

They usually are not all that expensive for local moves and if they break it they pay for it.

I would throw out everything I have in my apartment before I would move it myself or ask friends to move it.

I have a list. My fiancee says "puud" instead of "put". "Crick" just makes me think backwoods...I think Jed Clampett had a crick running thru his backyard before he struck oil.

I would gather up all of the peanuts, and be sure to stand up before the offending mother. Upon standing, release quantity of nuts onto top of mother's head. Offer an appropriate parting salutation. If parents these days are not made to pay somehow for their children's stupidity, no change will come to the society. This being said from the guy who wants to be a teacher.

I did a self-move with no assistance from a 3-BR house in MD to a 2-BR apartment in TN (transitional housing owned by my agency), then to a 3-BR house I purchased a block and a half away over a period of 5 months ... it was seriously

The mother is obnoxious because she doesn't teach her child you don't throw food and certainly not at strangers!!!

Done that with bananas, apples and cheese. Bad, bad, bad.

Good luck! There's nothing wrong with telling the mom she needs to control her child.

Oh, c'mon - y'all are no fun :p

I'm all excited about my new place and new decor prospects, don't be bringing me down with reality!

I guess you have to be a certain kind of person to get excited about room dividers, rugs, spiral staircases, and one-off couch colors.

Question: Does anyone else entirely rule out an apartment/home based on the choice of cabinetry wood/color? I'm very euro-mod and anything that looks like "oak" or "rustic" makes me run in the opposite direction despite the location/appliances/price/sqft.
