All major Western hotels in Indonesia have full airport-style security at the entrances. Basically, if you are a Westerner, they xray your bags and let you through without much of a secondary screening if you set off the metal detector. The same is basically true for well-dressed locals. What the recent bombing means is that such security will be much more thorough, and that additional physical reinforcements will be constructed around major urban hotels, with extra security guards. There will also be police and military officers stationed at major hotels for the foreseeable future.

Thanks for the backup! Given that it was guests who pulled off the attacks, I would hate to be a local trying to get a room for the foreseeable future.

Or you can walk the boxes to a teller...apparently my local TD doesn't care either way. ^

There is a TD at 14th and F, 7th and I, and another one just off of Dupont Circle. No need to come visit me, although if you did I'd certainly be willing to help you carry the coins from the car to the branch.

Rut roh.

Morning, Box. Happy Friday to all. :D

I didn't realize that we had any TD's in DC. Perhaps this coin idea is not so bad after all.

Sorry to hear your news, ALCO - but I like your outlook. ^

Here's to meeting up somewhere for those beers...

This TD thing sounds good. Off to see what I need to do to open an account.

It indeed does work quite well since you have access to the coin machines. The machines are technically for account holders only, but I don't know of anyone that has been called out on it. I would try to bring the rolled coin to a teller first. If they give you , try the other branches. The coin machine, after yesterday's happenings in my case, is my last resort. If a teller says that they will take them over the counter, ^ to them.

The other thing that drives me nuts about how they murder words here is "realtor". They say it "real-it-ter" here. I really had no idea that cultural differences in the language could be so profound in the small area that is the width of New Jersey. "Custard", as mentioned before, was confusing and slightly annoying. The other thing that really confused me was "hot cereal". Huh?? Hot cereal, to me, is taking a bowl of cereal and putting it in the microwave. Hot cereal out here is what the rest of the planet knows as instant oatmeal.

Want some "gravy" on your meatball hoagie? Umm... it's tomato/marinara/pasta sauce, not gravy!

No, it hasn't improved at all. It is one of the biggest hellholes of a city I have ever seen; perhaps the biggest. There is not a single redeeming quality about it nor any sort of worthwhile tourist sites within the city. It is the most convenient place to base oneself to reach Bukit Lawang, Lake Toba, and other North Sumatran tourist areas, however. It makes Jakarta look nice in comparison. The only thing it has going for it is that there are only three million inhabitants. I suppose it is worth visiting if you are in the palm oil or rubber trades. There are two walkable areas with really nice restaurants, however, and the air is not quite as dirty as the air in Jakarta.

Of the coins I've deposited, I haven't opened any.

Gravy is the way the ethnic Italians describe it, and I had at one time some extended family that were, err, "connected" Bronx natives, so I'm totally cool with that. On the topic of subs, I remember the afternoon guys on NJ 101.5 doing an hour of "What do you call a sub?" calls. They had heard that there were more than a few terms to describe cold cuts and toppings on a long roll, so they were plotting where callers were calling from against their preferred word. Bomber, hoagie, sub, hero, grinder, etc. were all represented.

I'm going to experiment with teller walkups with the order I placed last night.

Just booked IAH-CDG (AF)-PRG (OK)-JFK (OK)-ATL (DL)-HOU (DL)

100K & $84. Praying OK lets the reservation stand, as CO requires a 24 hour hold period before confirming.

I've been thinking about the coin thing for a while. I missed the boat on the NA coins as they're either sold out or on backorder. There were plenty a week ago. I ended up ordering $2500 in presidential coins... I sometimes walk to the local bank. It's not far. I think this deposit is going to require a car!
