It's all for the best. I actually found out just ten days after the honeymoon ended. When we combined our cell phone accounts, I (naturally) received a bill. I am, however, going to enjoy my newfound freedom to the hilt. I'm hitting up PRG with some buddies for Labor Day Weekend (there is Z availability on the PRG-JFK return ^), and am going to plan an absolutely ridiculous New Year's routing to somewhere off the beaten track.

So far, i can't say I've been disappointed by them. Since you are interested in transcon, DL has been pretty good about upgrades. I noticed on L-U-Ts they don't happen at five days, but three days. But they are consistent.
