I wonder if HOU/SAT/DAL-CRP would even exist if WN hadn't started out as an intra-Texas carrier. There's not really any huge competition that they displaced down there.

One would think they could tack on some extra segments to SHV from DAL or HOU. It's a pretty short flight, and quick turn-arounds at SHV would not be a problem. I'm sure the crowds that currently hop onto motorcoach casino charters to SHV and LCH from Houston and Dallas could be tempted onto WN flights.

Maybe you need to start lobbying. :)

While the SHV population is larger, is the air travel population the same size or larger?

Just because a place has a high population rate doesn't mean more people will fly. I mean, maybe there are more folks in SHV like the ones on Steph3n's train that thought planes were evil. :D

Anyone know what WN's general criteria are when selecting destination cities? The SHV metro area has about 100K more residents than CRP, and substantially more businesses (Oil/Gas & Casinos) than CRP, yet SHV has no WN presence...

The old WN CW would suggest SHV is in DAL's catchment area, with less than a 200 mile drive. I don't think any prognosticator really understands the new WN CW.

The box is awfully quiet today.

I opted not to go to SAN, the sun started peering out here in NYC.

I did not do much work this morning because I was watching golf.

Yeah, like that will last.

Only now because there are so few podunk airstrips left to support their expansion otherwise. Plus the revenues are higher in bigger airports and bigger cities.

LOL. My new obsession... bringing down flight prices to SHV. From RTWs to this in a few short weeks. :D

Entirely possible. However, I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised with SHV. I had only ever seen it in drive-by mode from I-20. The city itself is fine. Nothing exciting, but not horrid, either. The areas I saw reminded me a lot of bland suburban areas of Houston (Katy, The Woodlands, Champions Forest, etc.). Chain stores in strip-malls, as far as the eye could see.

One can hope. Sadly my battery is on the last 20% so I only have another 30 minutes of sitting at the Starbucks before I have to go back and recharge.

I like SHV. You get quite a bit more water and trees than you do in DFW and the temperatures are comparable. Granted, the nightlife leaves a lot to be desired, but overall it's a nice city.

One of my friends lives in Longview and commutes to Dallas two to three times a week for work, that behavior borders on insanity to me.

At least I can still plot an uber-exciting SHV-LAS flight on Allegiant. Having an obscure domestic FM line that would make ssullivan envious would be quite the accomplishment.

Apparently, Louisiana folk don't even consider it part of their own state. They begrudgingly acknowledge the existence of Monroe and N.E. Louisiana, but SHV is "Mini-Dallas," as far as the rest of the state is concerned.

I was somewhat disappointed that my arrival in SHV didn't coincide with being serenaded by a parade of barefoot children marvelling at our horseless carriage, to the tune of duelling banjos...

So we've gone from bullying people with hemispheritis to taking a stab at the King of Redneckistan routes?
