Conversation I just had:

1: "How was your trip last week"
Me: "Eh. I've been traveling too much. I'm really happy to be home for a couple weeks. I ended up getting stuck trying to get home last week, which is why I wasn't in the office on Friday, and ended up working most of the weekend."
1: "Oh. So, I suppose if I asked you to head back to ABQ tomorrow you wouldn't be happy?"
Me: "No."
1: "Hmmm.... I'll get back to you."

Damn. It. All.

Should I fly ATL-MKE-DFW on YX and DFW-IAH on CO (and then the opposite a few days later) using a YX award ticket and cheap DFW-IAH flights on CO in August, or should I fly BHM-MSY-HOU and back on a WN award ticket for the same trip?

Advantages of the YX/CO combination
  • More comfortable flights on YX 717s with baked on board cookies ^^
  • Probably upgraded on DFW-IAH
  • Must spend the night at DFW due to the arrival time on YX, but can get a night in with Marriott that I need for a promotion (worth 10,000 points)
  • A new line (MKE-DFW) on my FlightMemory map
  • 1,000 EQMs and lifetime CO miles
  • No drive to BHM

Disadvantages of the YX/CO combination
  • More expensive - must buy the DFW-IAH round trip (but I do get $10 in my TravelBank account if I book two one ways, which I would do)
  • Expense of overnight stay at DFW
  • Longer travel time

Advantages of WN
  • A new FlightMemory map line (BHM-MSY)
  • Shorter travel time
  • No overnight involved
  • Cheaper airfare - only $5-10 in taxes

Disadvantages of WN
  • WN... Need I say more?
  • Drive to BHM
  • Not as comfy
  • No cookies :td::td:

What would you do? And yes I could buy the ATL-IAH roundtrip outright, but CO is wanting a bloody fortune these days for that route on many flights.

And I'll add that this would get me in Houston on the same weekend as a certain baseball game that involves lots of beer, airline geek conversation, and tacos!

YX/CO combination... No question

Who knows how long YX will be around so you better fly them while you can.

Another vote for YX/CO. ^

I vote for the CO/YX combo. The cookies are very tasty!

Why does the thunderstorm start just over the golf course 10 minutes before my tee time? :-(

I got hailed on once - about 15 minutes before tee time. Summer heat breaker storm turned out to be very cold indeed. I still remember sitting there with the editor and owner of the magazine I was writing for at the time, all with our mouths agape as we stared at the hail, occasionally looking up to see only a medium gray sky. The course blew the horn a few minutes later.

I don't think the heavy stuff is going to come down for at least an hour or so. ;)

I'm in South Florida. Looks like it will pass in the next 30 min or so. They blew the horn just as I was unloading by clubs - just my luck. :-)

Sorry - you must not have Bill Murray as your caddy. ;)

Marriott needs to work on making their reservation rules more clear before booking a room.

I am used to being able to cancel a room for no penalty within 24 hours of booking. I booked a ticket, realized I wasn't going on the trip and called within 10 minutes. The booking agent told me that it was a fare that did not allow the cancellation within 24 hours.

She then proceeded to tell me to come down to 6th street  (the reservation was in Austin)

Any chance you booked one if their Internet only prepaid rates?

Apparently I did.

Looks like I'll be in Austin that night.

YX/CO, for comfort and ability to avoid WN.

I did not know that TP had a flight BUD-PRG. This makes my winter holiday planning far more interesting. Am hoping I can get:

DFW-xFRA (LH F)-oBUD (LH EuroC)-oPRG (TP EuroC)-xFRA (LH EuroC)-DFW (LH F).

to price out for 50K BD mi. for a mi. + cash award. BUD & PRG for New Year's would be ^
