There is still the discount - but it is $3 more.

My plan is to grab an iPhone 3G the day they come out but not a single Apple employee can give me specifics about whether or not I can purchase the phone in L.A. and get a Houston number or not.
Just wishing I knew how the sales portion was going to happen. |
I am also planning on picking up a 3G iPhone on 7/11. The lack of information is pretty normal for new Apple product releases - the 1st gen iPhone release was the same way. The Apple and AT&T employee training is usually not done until a few days before the release and customers are left pretty clueless until then.
Since the phone is supposedly not going to be sold online and will need to be activated in store, it might be tough to get a Houston number in LA. Although, there have also been rumors that you'll be able to go to an AT&T store days before the release to get a dormant contract that will be turned live wen you purchase the iPhone on the 11th. Who knows what will happen... Personally, I am just dreading the lines on the release day. I have an existing contract and was hoping to just order online and have it arrive a few days later. I'll either have to wait in line on the 11th or just wait a few days until the crowds (and hopefully not the inventory) die down. |
What is the hook for the iPhone? Maybe it's just me, but around here the AT&T/Cingular signal sucks, so I have no desire to switch from Verizon. I still don't get what is so great about it.

In other news, I just discovered my downfall. It's a sandwich which has chicken cutlet (fried), meatballs, 2 mozzarella sticks (fried), covered in marinara and then topped with some sort of white cheese. All on a submarine roll. :D |

The appeal of the iPhone? It's a music player, phone and Internet device all in one very slick and easy to use package. The interface is by far the best I have ever seen on a cell phone. I agree though, it is not for everyone.

I don't foresee this being a problem. What would make the iPhone any different than procuring any other type of cell-phone in terms of assigning it a number?

Downside: It'll kill you performing the upside. |

Question for the group: A friend of mine and I went up to "The Top of the Rock." I wasn't able to get a signal on my work Verizon phone or my T-Mobile phone. I didn't hear other phones ring or see people on the phones. What's the deal with no signal up that high? |

Also, TMo had some serious issues in that area with coverage a couple years back. They used to constantly drop data connections and leech the spectrum to cover their voice calls. I believe they finally added an additional location or two to help out on that front. |

The antennae often are angled down to cover people on the street and in cars. I have a client on the 46th floor of a building a couple blocks west of there and we can only get coverage by the windows for similar reasons. It is annoying, to say the least.

I may never get back to IAH. My DFW-IAH flight was supposed to depart at 7:10 PM. It's now scheduled to depart at 10:43 PM. I *might* get back to Houston before midnight tonight. Or maybe not.

So a drive would have been much faster :( Sorry for your looooong delay.
