why do people challenge me on AM? It is not like they will win.

It's not that I'm approving of one over the other. I've seen video of a Hornet jock lose the airplane and proceed to place his hands on the canopy rails and take his feet off the rudder pedals. It's rather surreal to watch.
I have to find the article that I read about the computer-human interaction in an Airbus cockpit. It left a bad taste in my mouth...almost like the computer is too powerful and the airplane thinks for itself despite the human. |

I've got a 5:30p departure on Friday and HeathrowGuy will be there, too. Our flight is apparently over by 11 in the back and 9 empty up front. So many possibilities. Hard to believe they were selling L seats at 20 days out.
My parents flew to DUB last week and after moving 5 to the front, they went out completely full. |

Morning Box!
I feel like I'm getting old... We went to my younger brother's high school baseball game to watch him pitch and got home around 10:45pm. I could barely get out of bed at 5:30 this morning.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems with the restrictions on number of focus cities and frequencies per route, we'll never get to a point where it gets cut-throat and firms start driving other firms out of the game. Everyone will just continue happily along.

I'm curious to know why you're OK with pilots trusting the computers on an F/A-18 but not on an Airubs.

I think I need to go sign on with the dude in the middle of the street babbling about the end of the world. I just got a 5-Day EUA for a Sunday afternoon EWR-IAH. The end is nigh.

Side note, Schwartz? He comes from the same great minds that brought us Ted (RAR!). McKinsey.

As a passenger I agree - it seems like Airbii are just slightly more comfortable/less hellish. But as an aviation enthusiast, the automation bothers me. I don't like the limits that the computer puts on the pilot, and I did ask about this in the UA Pilot Thread, only to be rebuked pretty good for basically having the facts reversed. The 'Bus pilots there seem to put stock into the idea that the computer will act faster and know better what to do should the  hit the fan.

All valid points. Guess I should switch to UA.
Ok, random fun story for the box. My customer this week is in a quarter end freeze which means that no one can do anything that disrupts the infrastructure. Random user submits an exemption request saying that he would like an exemption as he is going to be downloading large files. The approver asks what kinds of files so the user sends a sample over. The approver opens said file to find out it's porn. I could not believe when this happened, some people are real idiots. Best part, apparently there were three other folks involved and they were running a side biz reselling porn around the globe. Darwinism at work. |

When are you in EWR on Sunday? I'll be returning from HAM at ~11:30, depending on headwinds.

I generally trust the Airbii. Every once in a while there is something that makes me go "huh?". Case in point, a few years ago i'm sitting on a UA 320 at SFO going back to SAN. Pilot comes on board and tells us we all need to get off. Why? Because there was a problem with the computer and they needed to reboot the plane. I had visions of Bill Gates in the cockpit for that entire flight.
